Have any of you ever lost a domain due to false whois info?

Just curious if its ever been enforced?

FYI: All my domains have my legit office address info freely visible to all. Aside from my 'mission critical' domains - They have my REAL HOME ADDRESS but use privacy...

If you have and you wat to shre your story, please do - If not, just vote

Wouldn't your registrar normally notify you that someone had made a claim? So long as your email isn't fake...

BTW, I would use a PO box, as some registrars have a habit of "losing" privacy and showing your real details for a short period, sometimes long enough for WHOIS archiving services like domainsystems to capture the info.

Remember that WHOIS privacy isn't supposed to make you completely anonymous, just harder for a spammer to harvest. Some registrars will give out your real info based on a simple emailed complaint.

some use false whois for SEO purposes, when spreading many domains in their network over different hosts and different whois, so the PO box idea would be difficult unless you were spreading that all over the world too

I know someone who got godaddy account hacked, and domains pushed/transfered out. Godaddy couldn't help him as the whois info was bogus and he couldn't send the documents proving that he is "spongebob squarepants" or smth similar

The idea is to have the PO box as an extra level of security if the registrar drops your WHOIS privacy. The OP mentioned he has his home address behind WHOIS privacy...

I see

whois privacy is great, but unfortunately it wouldn't look very natural and organic if all of your authority backlinks were from the same privacy whois

I had a registrar forfeit a domain to me due to the fact that the current owner was inaccessible.

Long story short, the domain reflected a business name that was identical to mine (but in a different field). The current owner went out of business and their office was closed. Their phones were also disconnected.

It took a couple weeks, but the domain was forfeited over over to me prior to the formal expiration date. The registrar had an internal process for insuring the current owner was out of reach. After they concluded their internal investigation, they allowed me to purchase it directly. It cost me like 200 bucks, all in all. It was one of the best grabs of my life.

That is because you didn't want to buy it.

From what I have seen, unless you Want the domain, they wont do anything about fake info!

They want to keep billing someone.
