i always hate to see someones work shut down, even if it is all copy and paste work, someone put time on it, but of course, if it is stolen work, you have to learn that stolen work may not work for long

This is why as soon as we started doing work for webmasters we divested all of our own sites. I can never even LOOK like we could have taken any client data for our own sites because we don't HAVE any sites.

The sad part is you have no idea what you stole. You have no idea what it does and who it is provided to. What you also don't know is that the information is only a couple months from being obsolete and a whole new set of standards will apply.

I am a programmer and I do provide various services (see the sig) but never have even thought about replicating somebody's site/business model since I wouldn't like someone to do the same with sites I run. Being a professional and ethical is the only way of keeping your clients happy and that brings them back to me since they know they can count on me and that their secrets and projects are safe with me... Also, never give root password unless it's absolutely necessary for the job or give it just to the someone you have worked before or you TRUST him.

The concept that people in Romania can get away with wholesale Internet fraud, infringement, etc is a bit dated. It can still be a challenge to go after someone there but since joining the EU the local courts and law enforcement no longer provide a safe shield / barrier of incompetence for the local criminals to hide behind. Part of signing the EU treaty requires Romania to provide civil and criminal court remedies on par with the rest of the member nations.

Criminals there used to just laugh knowing they were free and clear and couldn't be touched but these days the threat of bringing the Romanian police into things has started to get results in some cases.

Of course there are numerous issues at play but basically the export of organized crime from RO and other EE countries to the rest of Europe has resulted in a huge amount of pressure being applied to them to clean house and take swift action. Failure to do so will result in threats by other member nations to expel them from the union becoming reality so right now, at least there is a better chance of getting results than before.

"Scriptkid" may want to look into how EU civil courts work should the OP choose to sue him. For starters, they tend to seize all your property and assets up front to make sure you can pay the judgement if you lose so even getting sued in the first place can be extremely disruptive to your finances. Based on his own statements he would lose his ass in this case, you can't launch a competing service based on a client's site - that's a huge mistake and admitting it in public like that was a real Darwin award moment...

What you described sucks and grounds for legal avenues. But what this scriptguy did for me was fix a contact form issue.

I think hw may have fixed, cant remember, but during this fix he stole all my files.

My sites were up and processing for a couple years before he got his thieving self into my server.
