I never said there was a problem.

Millions of people disagree with you.

From a 2010 article:

"From its beginnings in the 1980s, the ?right-to-carry? movement has succeeded in boosting the number of licensed concealed-gun carriers from fewer than 1 million to a record 6 million today"

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/34714389.../#.T3tdtNmwXng

Believe me, those numbers are much higher today.

messed up story though. I have little patience for the elderly when it comes to crazies, no reason she should be out in public.

Great answer, and one that's similar to what I tell people when they ask why I'm always carrying.

Someone then said something about living in fear if you carry all the time.... Actually at this point it's simply a habit, not fear at all. I just know that I would feel so stupid if I found myself in a situation where I needed it, and had the ability to have it with me, but didn't have it

In many states you can walk around with a gun on your hip in plain view. To carry the same gun concealed under your T-shirt you need a concealed carry permit.

No big deal. You stand a much better chance of some douche killing you with their car while texting than a gun owner shooting you. What's the fuss?

You do realize that 38 or 40 states out of 50 are "right to carry" states, and you can be issued a concealed carry permit if you pass the tests and the background investigations....

What is so crazy about carrying? It has been estimated that over 2 million crimes are averted every year by the presence of a legal firearm, 99% of times WITHOUT firing a shot.

cops hate the armed in my experience, i am glad you made it out unharmed and is a statement to your discipline and control of ones self in tense situations where tempaers may flare.

good job, again glad you made it out as you did... those situations can ALWAYS turn very ugly.

its a cultural thing i guess. i didn't grow up around guns or knew anyone who really owned anything more than hunting rifles. its just how it is around here. i think i'd be shitting myself daily wondering which guy i looked at the wrong way might be carrying living in a society where everyone can have one legally stuffed down their pants.

maybe i would understand it better if i grew up in the US - but the idea of carrying a gun around still sounds pretty weird to me

but i also have never been in any situation where i would have needed one or would have felt better if i had one

i would probably be even more nervous with a gun than without one

because we've had 1 murder here in the last 5 years in a city of 200k bordering detroit. because our firearm related death rate is less than half of yours despite there being lots of guns in canada..

as i said before, i'm not against owning them at all. I just think it sounds crazy to me that you feel the need to carry them at all times. I can defend my people without a gun, why can't you?

Actually, Illinois is the only State in the US that does not allow concealed carry. 49/50

Every time....Allow me to repeat that...EVERY TIME I have been pulled over and had a gun on me, I have ended up in a conversation with the officer about firearms and have yet to receive anything more than a "fix-it ticket". From my experiences, most police understand that if you have a CCW permit, you are typically not a threat.

Not everyone can and there is a process for getting a permit in most States. AZ, VT, AK, MT, & WY do not require a permit to carry concealed but you still must be legally able to possess a gun or it isn't going to be legal to carry it. Duh right?

Technically speaking, anybody anywhere in the world can carry concealed but that doesn't make it legal. Kinda funny that some people here are more concerned with my legal ability to carry than about the convicted felons who carry illegally.

36 States think it's OK for me to carry in them. The way I see it, State and Federal laws trump personal opinions.

Apples and oranges.

Canada has many guns but nowhere near as many as the US. Statistics and common sense show that where there are more guns, there is more gun related violence. You can defend your people without a gun because your assailant is only armed with a hockey stick.

Obviously the hundreds of millions of guns in the US are not going to vanish anytime soon.

Nobody can dispute that more guns in public hands = more gun related crimes. However, more guns legally carried by US citizens have proven to stop more crime.

Same here I feel no need whatsoever to carry a gun. I honestly just don't get it. In any event to each their own.

also my comment has a little to do with seeing stuff like this

https://youtube.com/watch?v=-taU9d26wT4

having been under martial law and seen in person how quick you lose thoe gun rights and its the military and police disarming you, I stand with armed citizens against the authority always. youre allowed to carry, until THEY SAY YOU CANT ANYMORe. hehehe

those same cops will be disarming you when martial law is declared, mark my words.

come live in nola and sit through a hurricane arming yourself only to be told you cant take your gun with you when you evacuate (also mandatory and against will) and to turn it over and see it destroyed right in front of you. scary shit man, america is all fine and dandy free until shit really happens like a hurricane. this can and will occur in any state where disaster occurs...

ive seen it time after time...

watch that vid,... the NRA is all up in it. and it think they won the case eventually but that wont stop them from disarming citizens.

I am curious, are you able to transport a gun with you when you catch a plane?

ie in the cargo hold etc and do you do this?

According that that video, black folk are allowed to own guns too?

Maybe I should reconsider my position on this whole gun control thing...

it is fairly difficult to get a CCW permit in California.
difficult as in you have to write to the local sheriff and have a pretty good reason why you need to protect yourself in public. security guard or jewelry store owner etc..
i am guessing you are in NV or AZ?

That is interesting, thanks for the link.

Am I reading this correctly?

You can carry the gun (in a locked hard sided container) with you or checked in?

difficult as in you have to write to the local sheriff and have a pretty good reason why you need to protect yourself in public. security guard or jewelry store owner etc..
i am guessing you are in NV or AZ?
if that same situation happened in Las Vegas, cops would've shot him dead, then asked him questions..happens way too much here. You can have CCW permit and end up dead

lots of responsible gun owners here and we take our gun rights seriously, considering we have the castle law doctrine down here which pretty much allows me to carry in my car without a permit as it is an extension of my home and have every right to protect myself and family in vehicle... permits? for what, these rights were inherent to us long before any american government was formed....

however, as I pointed out, carry permits are all fine and make america look cool but reality is you will be disarmed in time of any event where youll need to defend yourself or property. Blackwater wins, you will lose, trust me. People feel tough walking around with guns but in real tragedy you wont be allowed to carry it.

people love the right to carry but its pretty much a fantasy when youve had your guns taken from you in broad daylight by the military on homeland in your own neighborhood. notice how everyone thinks "from my dead hands" yeah uh huh, watch that video...

as soon as governor declares state of emergency your rights go out the window and youll be arrested or shot for carrying that same weapon you paid permit for.

The Second Amendment was written specifically to prevent exactly that from happening. We'll see how many more times the Government pulls that shit before people start fighting back with more than video interviews. Sooner or later, they will try to take guns from a group that is not a bunch of pussies. Many people on both sides will be shot.

60 is not really all that "old", think of how fast the last 11 years have gone by on this forum alone, and realize her comment was true about us being 60 before we know it too

80 on the other hand, that is old

as the men in the video say, when they have machine gun pointed at your family it aint that easy.

as i said, all fantasy until reality hits.

I am glad NRA fought the case but martial law pretty much negates your rights, and always will.

theres been a lot written on gun confiscation during and after katrina, its been years of legal battles.

Because I am like many, I have guns given to me handed down from generations and if some cop took it and smashed it, id seriously want to see him dead. cop after cop broke gun after gun right in front of people, the systematic confiscation was well documented.

I have the gun my grandmother gave to my grandfather as wedding present, Ill be damned some cop take it from me.

I understand what you're saying. However, I feel that under the right circumstances, things could turn out differently than you are suggesting.

There are huge numbers of gun owners in this country who will not turn over their guns without a fight. IF the people in that video had refused to give up their guns and those making them do so had shot them, all hell would have broken loose. The cops, military, whoever would not be safe from retaliation and/or liability.

Just look at the comment ninavain posted:

"if that same situation happened in Las Vegas, cops would've shot him dead, then asked him questions..happens way too much here. You can have CCW permit and end up dead"

I'm guessing that is in response to the Erik Scott case where he was gunned down at Costco while carrying 2 guns and a valid CCW permit. Incidents like that give people an unfortunate opinion of officers, like the one ninavain shared with us. The more it happens, the more people will develop those opinions and stand up for themselves.

I was thinking the same thing. Good thing it didnt happen in Las Vegas. You'd have to be nuts to get a CCW here.

That is a horrible ordeal to have to endure, at least it sounds like its over for now, and hopefully some of us can walk away from your situation having learned something

Best of Luck in the future and you might want to do your grocery shopping later at night, when the elderly are safe at home sleeping
