Definitely. Because criminals are going to go, "Oh, crap! These things are illegal! Nobody else is carrying them so I better get rid of mine, too!"

Right?

I get the self defense thing, I really do but what are you defending yourself from? A broken society by the sounds of it.

In places like China, Japan, The UK, Netherlands etc. it is either illegal or extremely strict and all of those countries have much lower homicide rates.

The UK has more crime though per capita, but I blame the legal system for that, far too soft.

Work it out, less handguns sold = less handguns available = less people getting shot and killed. Pretty damn simple.

The thing the makes me laugh about your law is that you can legally (in some places) be armed inside a bank.

Going into the bank to withdraw money, you pull out your wallet and request a withdraw at the ATM, Is only a few bad steps away from going into the to withdraw money, you pull out your gun and make request everybody get the fuck down and hand me over your money.

I remember Aaron saying about a person in the bank with a concealed carry could stop a robbery etc. but what happens when the only person in the bank is the wrong guy with the gun who wants to rob the place?

I carry a gun into the bank with me. If a guy's gonna rob a bank he's gonna rob a bank. He won't go get a Concealed Carry permit before doing so.

Yes, but what I'm saying is this; You can legally carry a weapon into the bank with you, maybe you can't make your mortage payment and are in a depressed mood, you're still a legally armed citizen at this point. Then you look around as you enter the door, you're the only person there other than the staff, now you're thinking ok I'm the only one here! I could solve all my problems (not that it will actually solve anything) by robbing this place, Out comes the gun that was up until the moment you pointed it at the cashier legally carried into the bank and you can make the rest up in your own mind.

Yes, that happens all the time. Right?

Since we're talking about fantasy, I'll play along:
We should totally outlaw cars. Because let's say I'm driving one. And let's say I'm behind on both my mortgage payments AND my car payment. And I drive by a bank at the beginning of the month when banks carry more cash to give out to all those darn welfare recipients who don't deserve it. We all know those people don't wake up very early, and I'm driving by right as the bank opens. So I'm thinking, "Wow, those welfare recipients don't deserve all the cash that's in that bank right now, and they aren't awake yet to get it, so I probably won't hurt anyone when I ram through this window, and if I go fast enough I can wind up in the vault and get all that money!" Of course, doing that won't actually solve anything. You can make up the way I get away in your mind.

That's so far out in la-la land I can't even respond.

It's like you've lost the ability to differentiate between fantasy and reality.

Fantasy? It was a theoretical example of how having a concealed hand gun present legally could quickly turn into a tragedy.

Who are these people in Indiana being held up by at the moment? Probably a law abiding citizen with a legally registered gun who has chosen to use it for crime.

I could be wrong of course just guessing.

600 rounds!

jesus christ.

is there no pressure to the spring in the magazine? 600 rounds of reloading, I'm left questioning if you have any skin left on your thumb????????

I don't use handguns, but I've shot off a brick or two of ammo in my time and whenever I get over a few hundred rounds with just a .22 it tears the hell out of my thumb loading the bullets....

or do you have some sort of mechanical loading device?

statistically, this is true.

in fact, if you think about it, if you're going to commit a crime with a gun, it's much better to have an illegal stolen or untraceable gun.

My little 30lb dog kills squirrels. He doesn't own a gun.

people buy guns for many different reason, some are they like to collect them, shooting practice. There cool to have one. For protection against robbers, etcs

I had the same thought.

I figured he's using a loader, or that there were multiple people shooting and taking turns thumbing in the rounds.

It's a bit easier to push in 17 rounds (or whatever) taking turns, and doing it a bit more slowly while another shoots.

that's an EXTREMELY uncharacteristic gun owning crime.

much more characteristic are the following scenarios.

a gun is improperly stored and a kid gets hurt or killed by playing with it.

a gun owner uses the gun to kill his wife/girlfriend.

a gun owner kills a friend or neighbor in a drunken rage, or a drunken accident.

yes, sometimes a gun owner will use a gun to commit a crime in hopes of making money, usually because they have lost their job and been out of work long enough to be desperate. but, it's a planned crime, not often an impulse crime, and the carry is illegal from the outset, not permitted.

this all is entirely seperate from the many people who are already inclined to crime who get guns either legally or illegally, which of course is also relatively common.
