I have one from Square and Paypal too. They're really easy to use.

I've been trying to get the people that I buy from at the Public Market to start using them, I had carrying cash down there.

There are a few using them already and I make it a point to buy from them first, if they have what I want.

The rates for Paypal are a bit better. I used the Square reader last year for my big garage sale and people got a kick out of it.

Front businesses have been around forever. His is largely cash based. Having some credit card sales isn't really a bad thing. I'm sure if he was worried he wouldn't be doing it.

Less risk than being the one who grows it or the hookers mentioned in the OP

i'd figure that any weed purveyor with more than 5 brain cells firing would only sell a small amount to a new customer. that way, if the customer charges back, the merchant is only out a relatively few bucks.

if it was a normal credit card processors it would be great but to use it with paypal is where i have a problem

Square, and presumably other similar services, requires GPS to be enabled. Not a biggie for most, but something to be aware of.

As for fees, Square and the like are fantastic for small-time sellers / on the road sales with no commitments and simple fee structure.

No. Inside or out - doesn't matter. I should have written "Location Tracking", which is more technically accurate. Location tracking can be performed automatically (triangulation, signal strength, etc) by the cell service provider regardless of whether one's phone can get a GPS signal or not.
