I gotta say, this thread is a huge surprise

I'm new to gfy and I clicked on this thread tonight expecting to see endless pages of discussion about how much filelockers suck along with aimless fantasies about them not existing. I did NOT expect to read this thread and see that y'all are actually doing something about filelocker piracy (my presumption was not a reflection on gfy members, but rather based upon observation of people in general, who tend to prefer complaining over action)

huge props, this is a wicked campaign

Update (29/08/2012)
The support of Netload responds to our request, "the temporary account lockout came due to a communication error with Paypal, so that no payment could be accepted, the problem has been eliminated by the very good cooperation with Paypal after a short time.". We wait still a response from PayPal.

Update (01/09/2012)
PayPal has apparently locked Netload again. This leaves the file hoster announced "good cooperation" in a somewhat different light. Even now gave users on forums WJunction known, PayPal has blocked the accounts of uploaders because of suspected copyright infringement. We are still waiting to no avail for a reaction of PayPal.

So "PayPal has blocked the accounts of uploaders because of suspected copyright infringement" ? This would be quite a move, StopFileUploaders too?

India economy seems affected:

People who receive payments for infringing content are targets.

It is a big job for AK to shut down paypal for sites that are infringing. I know, because I contacted and dmca's paypal every week for months over a filelocker/pirate marriage. No answer. Nothing. Ignored. So if you are saying he is able to shut down paypal for legit sites, I have a difficult time buying that.

Just to clear up any misconceptions.

We don't go after any site or individual unless the evidence of infringement or illegal activity is overwhelming.

To clear up those misconceptions, I suggest you make a list of whitelisted, approved file locker sites. Dropbox , Google Drive, and?

RapidGator claims they block files with md5 hash which they have completely lied about. I have submitted takedowns every 24 hours (after everytime theyre taken down and put back up) for files that share the exact same md5 hash string. I dont believe they've banned the user either.

I got the same email today. I sent out several DMCA's to RapidGator and their host NetVillage last week and they pulled the links but a few days later the exact same links were back up. They sent me an email saying if I put "Md5 hash" in the subject line they will block those files from future uploads. I sent them all the same links so we'll see how effective it is.

The monkeys are already on a thread asking for this weeks GHS update that hasn't been released yet. What a fuck'n joke.

Dear Sir,

Files from your DMCA takedown notice will be deleted in 24 hours.

if you want us to block your content and prevent it from uploading to
our servers in the future by blocking it by Md5 hash, please always
put md5 hash in email subject.

It'll minimise risk that your content is uploaded again and will also
speed up deletion process!

Please let us know if you wish to receive a deletion-confirmation of
the reported files.

If you have other, non DMCA questions, please send your request to
[email protected]

Kind Regards,

Rapidgator.net support

Who cares about "approved" file lockers?
The point of this is to help stop piracy.

Why would anyone "approve" a file locker? Who gives a fuck about file lockers other than the ones who are making a fortune off of pirated content?

Well if there's no one file locker that is considered as implementing proper DMCA and so could be taken as example by others, then you are assuming every file locker is illegal and so no any file locker function it can be implemented in any way ever, that is legal.
It needs some legal examples so you can write: "dear filelocker X, you should implement the takedown notice same as whitelisted filelocker Y and Z, or you are illegal".

Its not effective. They don't even attempt to do so, atleast not with the pirates that are bringing in premium memberships like clockwork.

They have been good with removing the links within 24 hours though, ill give them that

Though they are definitely not doing anything about repeat infringers

We're not going to publish a whitelist. What we will say is that if you have no affiliate program related to downloads, ban links to files on warez sites and piracy forums, have a properly enforced repeat offender policy, co-operate with anti-piracy organisations such as Copy Control and legitimately try to mitigate piracy on your service then you'll be pretty safe.

We believe that RapidGator do not actually delete content, we have fairly compelling evidence to indicate that up-loaders can simply re-instate content without fear of losing their account and files.

Rapidgator are making a serious error of judgement if they think that this behaviour is without consequences. Watch this space.

I agree. We have our hands full dealing with infringing file lockers. We're not going into the business of approving sites. If you're legitimately legal then you have nothing to fear from the Stop File Lockers project.

Sites which monetize infringing content without a serious effort in place to mitigate this are likely to be targeted. It's really not that difficult for a business to know whether or not it's operating within the law.

No, it's not effective when a business has set itself up as an online fence for stolen digital content. Sites like Rapidgator are not serious cloud storage services, they're specifically designed to profit from infringing content. They're criminal operations and need to be addressed as such.

Oh, that's just great.

This would explain why I had to report the same file five times in five consecutive days uploaded by the same user, each time supplying the md5 hash tag in the email and using md5 hash in the title like they instruct in their canned response.

Oron did that... look what happened to them! haw haw haw!

Incidentally AK, without letting the upload monkeys see what I want to post, what's the best way to inform you privately of a filelocker that is ignoring DMCAs completely and basically just taking the piss?
We'll then see if you can exert some pressure on their revenue sources.

I received the report you sent through the SFL site.

The site in question is using one of a number of third party processors we're currently talking to about the problem.

Well this is not a whitelist but it is a start.
You see what megaupload's Kim said "I do same as google", and fileshoppe or so here write he's innocent too. People in this forum may be webmasters so quite understand immediately what it is the truth about a site, but you are in the press and you should describe something like an easy way to describe who's a legal cloud storage, and maybe do a few examples why google drive is different from megaupload. 99% of humans do not know. We're the 1% of geeks who know but this is not the point.

Thanks... good luck with that.

Fuck you.

What's you're fucking problem? Do YOU produce content? Do YOU put your ass on the line with the legalities, the time, the effort?

Or are you just another fucking thief who steals everything. Fuck you.

In the past few days we've successfully had 17 file lockers terminated with HiPay.

HiPay have now made the decision not to work with File Lockers.

As of now the following payment systems will not accept payments for file lockers:

Moneybookers/Skrill
HiPay
AlertPay/Payza
2CO
Paxum
CCBill

For file lockers to work with Paypal they must become an approved merchant.

Paypal have terminated relationships with payments systems:

PaymentWall
CarrotPay

I noticed today that 3xupdate has disappeared. One of the things that was unique about this website is that it said it was uploading the movies.

I noticed some pirates talking after I immediately took down their links:

That said, those links sure die fast. Have you considered using some kind of link hider or DLC-container? DLC-containers are one way containers. A download program can download but you can't extract the links manually. Only the program sees the actual download links. So without a special program you can't find out the links and can't report them to the site => Links stay alive.

I use cryptload and am very happy with it. But J-Downloader is equally good. Both are freeware and truth be told, they don't just make the links safer and last longer, they make downloading a lot easier. The program downloads automatically. A pop-up appears on your screen when you have to input the next captcha and that's it. You don't have to manually click each single link, don't have to check the clock to see if the 15 minute timer is up...You just load the dlc and enter the captcha when prompted.

So if you go through the work of uploading (much appreciated and thank you), why not use something to keep the links alive longer?
I have yet to look into those pieces of software, if pirates started using something like this, would it hurt? or is there a way to still obtain the link and report?

If they start encrypting links, how would you obtain the link to report?

I’ve used J-downloader before. Been a while though. If I remember you can see the link with that.

Most of your big boards will not let pirates post link shortners or hidden links. Reason being is their board doesn’t get credit for the links that way and they won’t get their 5% cut. The file lockers only give the big boards 1 referrer they can send from

Yes, those who don't know the boards make a percentage off your content too.
