Dementia ...I never want to be like this !
We were on our way to Southampton and stoped off to get some petrol, As i got back into the drivers seat after filling up, this little nissan car comes rolling alongside me, The guy driving couldent get his car to start and it was just rolling forward very slowly with him trying to start it. I got back out and asked if he wanted a push and he just looked at me at first then said ok.
Another guy came over and helped and we pushed him out of the way of the petrol pumps and told him to put his car in 2nd gear and let the clutch up when the car was rolling a little faster. Well he dident do it, or dident seem to know how to do it. We finally pushed his car to the side of the curb and asked if he had AA, he said he thinks he has, So we called them only to find out he dident. I then asked him where he lived and he also couldent remember his address. The guy seemed really confused and kept talking about a neighbour and that his wife had left him. This guy was maybe in his 70s and he had a dog with him, we couldent just leave him stranded. So we called the police who never even bothered to turn up while we were there. He did tell us his name but we later found out it was wrong after we looked in his glove compartment and found a birth certificate. We bought him a drink and got a chair from the petrol station as he wasent very steady on his feet and we were still waiting for the police to turn up. In the end his carer turned up at the petrol station who was only there to buy his lunch and take it round to him. We found out that he had dementia and he shouldent even be driving. His wife had passed away and he had no family. I felt so sorry for him and if we hadent stoped to help, he would have just been left there and the amount of cars leaving the petrol station who totaly ignored him was a joke. As for people of his age like this being on thier own .. it should never happen. Dementia is one desease I never want |

I watched my grandmother suffer through it and it was heartbreaking. Only upside is that when she was in an episode it seemed to be her mind having good thoughts based on the things she said. She was a lifelong artist and most of her ramblings were about art so I would tell myself she was in a good place in her mind.

Good of you to take the time and care to help him out. A lot of people wouldn't bother.
Getting old and facing the prospects of dementia or alzheimers is sad. |

I like to think that dementia is a way for older people to check out. That it is a defense mechanism of the brain so they do not have to go through certain things. Likely no reality to that but I like to believe it. Seems like a lot of people develop it as their health starts to fail.

I still dont know if the police turned up in the end cause once his carer turned up she thanked us and said she would wait for them to arrive. They said on the phone that it was priority and they would send the nearest car out, We were with him for well over 45 mins and they still hadent turned up. Yep very sad to see a guy like this just left and im suprised he managed to drive and not have an accident |

There was also another guy who did come over and help me push the car then he left. But anybody with at least half a heart would have done the same thing. We couldent just leave him there.

I had a great aunt that had it pretty bad towards the end. I didn't know here that well, but the few times I saw her towards the end was pretty sad. She kept asking who I was. I would tell her and then she would ask another person if I was lying because she thought I was still a little 10 year old kid (at the time I was in my mid-20's). Someone would tell it really was me and she would comment on how much I had grown and be happy. Then five minutes later she would ask me who I was again. It was pretty sad.
She didn't last much longer after that, but she seemed to be at peace. Some dementia patients get mean and angry. |

Old person's flu vaccine makes Dementia/Alzheimer's a lot more likely according to celebrated immunologist Dr Fudenberg http://www.nitrf.org/fudenberg.html
>>>>> "If an individual has had 5 consecutive flu shots between 1970 - 1980 (the years of the study) his/her chance of developing Alzheimer's Disease is 10 times greater than if they had 1, two or no shots." When asked why, Dr. Fudenberg stated that it is due to the mercury and aluminum buildup that is in EVERY flu shot (and in almost all childhood shots). The gradual mercury and aluminum buildup in the brain causes cognitive dysfunction. Dr. Fudenberg's comments above were from his speech at the NVIC International Vaccine Conference, Arlington VA September, 1997. <<<< http://suewidemark.freeservers.com/f...alzheimers.htm

If it would mean paying out $Billions in compensation and losing $Billions of future sales, then without a doubt it must be 'Quackery' ![]()
