HORROR: DIRECT NIC STAFF STILL in New Orleans Hi Rise Office.

As some of you here do, I have all my domains registered at Direct Nic.

They are a great bunch of people and as many of you know they are in the center of the tragedy in New Orleans, stuck by choice in the abandoned unsafe office in downtown New Orleans..

Its been a struggle day by day as I have followed all that has been going on with them..

They have a VERY VERY interesting live blog that is giving a detailed BLOW by BLOW of what?s going on here..

http://mgno.com/

It is an amazing read.. OF what is actually going on at ground zero

2:15 am Getting Some Rest
It's been a very long day. I'm going to crash for a bit and try to get 5 hours or so of sleep. I apologize again that I cannot respond to each IM. I am trying. We've got that IRC channel going and I'll try to get in there for a while later in the day.

I am going to debrief the police officer completely in the morning. He was utterly fatigued, thirsty, and wanted to find out what the hell was really going on.

Security has become a major concern now, because the NOPD is ineffective and the looters terrorists are roaming the streets. Word is now that they're lighting buildings on fire, but I can't confirm that. Anyway, we have to run guard shifts and patrol and it limits our downtime.

It is a zoo out there though, make no mistake. It's the wild kingdom. It's Lord of the Flies. That doesn't mean there's murder on every street corner. But what it does mean is that the rule of law has collapsed, that there is no order, and that property rights cannot and are not being enforced. Anyone who is on the streets is in immediate danger of being robbed and killed. It's that bad.

I will be back on around 0700 or so I think.

Team SOTI signing off. Will leave the cam on.

That blog is amazing. Good luck to the DirectNic guys. This will be book material in the future.

It is truly pathetic to see the response of the federal gov't in this situation. With the warnings we had about this they seem to be about as unprepared for this event as possible. No one is expecting miracles but this response shows an unbelieveable degree of arrogance and lack of compassion for those folks down there. For now we can only donate money and it feels so empty and helpless...

The governor is talking about a mandatory city evacuation perhaps.

I wonder what will happen.. There are some that just cant get out..

Will this mean the National Guard and police will also leave?

That would be bad. Real bad.

ITs so unsafe as it is.. Risking their life here literally.

If there is an evac, this could be horrible.

yah i have been following along.. i wish he would comment the pictures so we know what the fuck he is filming..

The caption on the pictures page says directnic vs looters , but you can't really tell anyone is looting fromt he pics, just looks like people struggling to survive.

The only picture with obvious looting is the white guy stealing a tire from the white fucked up car

And some possible drama with the black s.u.v. with the hottie in the passenger side.

Thats crazy stuff, scary for sure. I wonder why in a time of crisis people would act like that? I know NO is a weird place, but thats just down right scary. Makes me want to build one of those 1950 fall out shelters with gun turrets in my backyard

wow.. its like the people in NO dont want to be saved..

shooting at firemen and setting more fires? what the hell does that accomplish?

there is no reason for any of the violence going on down there, I guess some people really are not as evolved as the rest of us.

Hats off the the guys at DirectNic for toughing all this out

"The police are looting. This has been confirmed by several independent sources. Some of the looting might be "legitimate" in as much as that word has any meaning in this context. They have broken into ATMs and safes: confirmed. We have eyewitnesses to this. They have taken dozens of SUVs from dealerships ostensibly for official use. They have also looted gun stores and pawn shops for all the small arms, supposedly to prevent "criminals" from doing so. But who knows their true intentions. "

What the fuck?

I was able to speak with Donnie and Sig at DirectNic yesterday AM via Donnies Cellphone. I have known Donnie and Sig for years - meeting them both personally whilist in NOLA - CECash.com has always have had great service/support from these two brainiacs (dont worry, they both know I mean this with respect!). We used to have all our domains there.. and now only a few.

Donnie said his father and myself were the only 2 phone calls he'd received since Katrina - he said the phone startled him... and I could tell it was great for those guys to hear We are reading buffs blog, watching the livecam and supporting their superhuman efforts to keep DirectNic up and online.

I asked these guys if there was anything we could do... anything. I could sense their thoughts... but then Donnie replied...

"Dude.. I would tell you we need food, guns, ammo, water, body armor etc etc... But I fuckin know you... You would somehow have truckloads of each here in hours!!"

I replied.. "Hell Yeah I would... and a hippo for Billy to hump too!!"

I can honestly say.. that was the first honest to goodness laugh those guys had in hours.... It was great medicine....

I have tried to call the guys this AM... and circuits are hosed... I wonder.. if yesterday.. me getting through was just a fluke..and that was why Donnie was so damn surprised when the phone rang..

Hang in their men!! and if you need anything, just let us know via the blog and we will be there with truckloads

so what happens to the domains if directNIC is forced to leave NO? Can they temporarily relocate their servers? What kinda backups are they planning? I'm just curious to know what happens to the domains cos lotta people could be just as badly hurt as NO if their sites go down cos of dns issues.

It's already being taken care of. DirectNic has contacts with some if not all of the biggest folks in the industry AND in NOLA. From what the owner's have said, there are several back up plans that can be implemented immediately if they are forced to evacuate the actual building.

I dont want to speak for anyone... but Yesterday, DirectNIC staff was working on long term contingency plans.

They had just stockpiled diesel fuel for generator and had secured the building with armed patrols and have kept DirectNIC up and online. Survival and short term solutions were key - I dont believe they have had much time for anything else. They have done one helluva job so far and get two thumbs up from Big B.

The DirecNIC crew is AMAZING! Sig is the CEO and to ensure the safety of all his customers Data he and Buff decided to tough it out in the building to keep the generators running until things can be safely and securely be moved to another location. There is NOONE, and I do mean Noone, else who would do this with a Category 5 hurricane barreling down. He cares more about his customers than himself. This is why he is successful. This is why DirectNIC is successful.

You will find other companies trying to steal busienss from them or others effected... You would never see these guys doing that. They are stuck BY CHOICE in "Lord of the Flies" beacause they care about each and every customer.

I am proud to know them. I am proud to call them my friends.

Thank goodness they are safe! Lets hope it stays that way!

Its been a struggle day by day as I have followed all that has been going on with them..

They have a VERY VERY interesting live blog that is giving a detailed BLOW by BLOW of what?s going on here..

It is an amazing read.. OF what is actually going on at ground zero
All I can think to say is wow.

BTW -

Boneprone, not sure if you did this on purpose or not..

But DirectNIC is owned by Intercosmos Media Group.
MikeAI is a partner in Intercosmos... and also, separately owns Hirise Technology (which has Amateur Index). Other than that, the 2 have nothing to do with eachother.

Although I am sure you meant Hi Rise building, not the company:-)

You will find other companies trying to steal busienss from them or others effected... You would never see these guys doing that. They are stuck BY CHOICE in "Lord of the Flies" beacause they care about each and every customer.

I am proud to know them. I am proud to call them my friends.

Thank goodness they are safe! Lets hope it stays that way!
Well said!!
