This is it. Moving back to the States suddenly after 15 years in the UK, meant I had to make some quick choices and that meant taking temporary and contract positions while I got my footing. Yes, it can be and when you are used to being a firm fixture at a company, it can be disorientating to suddenly be doing things much differently in your career. If the last year taught me anything, it was to find the right home both physically and for work.
