FACT: People with Jamie Oliver books

Have no clue about cooking.

No real cook buys his books.

I own one, It was given to me as a gift a few years back. The recipes are fairly basic in complexity, and very british in nature. Many meat pies and hot pots, stews, and curries. It's a decent book, and I use it from time to time when I am an hungry and devoid of ideas.

He might look like a chud, and prattle about too much, but he's not that bad. It's a decent enough book, and the recipes are good, simple enough and relatively inexpensive.

I never claimed he's not worth that or that he pretends to be the best chef. It's not what this topic is about.

Real cooks use recipes more as inspiration, reference or to learn a new technique than anything else.

I'll admit, some of the stuff Jamie Oliver makes on his shows looks really tasty. I wouldn't lump him in at all with the Rachel Ray's and Guy Fiero's of the world.

I have several and I am not bad at cooking. I started out being annoyed by Jamie but he won me over through they years. Of course, just in time to be in the US now and not have to have him in my face so much. I am sure that helps.

He writes simple recipes with ingredients that's easy to find. In your opinion, what's the matter with his recipes?

Someone got me his first book, the pudding recipes are nice, the rest pretty obvious.

Exactly. Some days I am out of ideas for what to make, and I can thumb through the fridge and pantry and usually piece together a half decent meal using the Jamie Oliver book as a reference. I don't whip out David Chang's Ma Peche cookbook on a wednesday when I want a quick and easy meal. That would be counterproductive.

Sure, he's got a little weasel face and a lisp, but cant argue with simple that tastes good. He's certainly less irritating the Guy Fieri.

Do you think you've missed my point about the type of consumer Jamie Oliver's books are aimed at?

I think he's a good Chef myself,

and I've tried a couple of his more simple recipes and they turned out well. I think he is a stand up fella. Now, I do think he could outcook Gordon? No. But different styles entirely.

That newer show with Gordon in his own kitchen just doing smaller faster meals, simpler stuff.. is incredible. I see shortly after that Jamie picked up on his 15 minute meals too.

He doesn't cook. He just puts stuff together and heats it.

Why do you care so much about it?

Secretly in love with him or something?
