Anyone buy a 3rd party vehicle warranty?

Just dropped off my car to have the transmission looked at... about $9,000 to fix it!!!

I bought one of these warranties before but they ended up screwing me because nothing was covered... so I'm looking for revenge

Question is, since the dealership already said the trans needs repaired, can I still buy one of these warranties, wait 30 days and make a claim? Or am I looking to go to jail and have things put in my butt?

I have bought them in the past. I have used them for repairs and have never been screwed. I might have overpaid for it, because the dealerships set their prices and they mark it up nicely...but that's it.

I bet you have some risk there. You'd probably get caught.

Yes I'm sure no one has ever thought of that.

Better off taking it to another dealership and trading it in.

I had one on a vehicle years ago. Horrible experience. Never again.

As for your question, they will likely flag it for fraud after only 30 days

funny, i've heard that the warrantys are built to cover things that either don't fail or aren't that much. they specifically leave out things made to fail that are expensive

$9k for a new transmission? Yikes.

That's more than my truck is worth.

2006 7 series BMW

Car is worth maybe low $20's

The "part" or transmission is $6,200 to $6,800 depending where they order. Labor is $1,800 to $2,500. That's not include anything else that breaks when they are repairing it.

The trans can not be repaired, BMW will not allow it to happen for some reason other than to rape customers out of money.

I called a few shops and they said "we don't like to mess with their transmissions, they are tricky and break very easily."

Awesome, now I have a $20k paperweight!

We had one of those 3rd party warranties years ago for a Chevy Tracker. Before they would actually make the sale of the warranty to us, they sent out someone to inspect and test drive the vehicle first.

Fuck that.

Hire local bro to sell your car part by part and take 50% and use that
for a new car.

I would suggest checking around for more repair shops that specialize in servicing BMW's. Google could be your best friend on this task.

Or start calling local junkyards for models with the same transmission. You might get lucky and find one where the transmission was not damaged in the wreck, or the motor went bad, so on.

Heck, check e-bay, craigslist for the parts.

Your car is 7 years old, time to stop going to the dealer and deal with local repair shops. If you live in anything resembling a large city, there will be a few repair shops that specialize in German automobiles.

Find a shop, check reviews... go from there.
