Sounds like you should be able to get around 500Mhash/s on the 7970 not sure of those are overclocked also though.

Make sure you have the current drivers installed and the AMD APK thing installed. I'm using reaper to mine. Mess with the aggression settings to speed up or slow down mining speed. This is going to cause havoc to your screen if it's set too low and may even lock up. Try using multiple threads per GPU also.

Thanks for that i love reaper but its messing me around with the 7970 can not get it to work always getting the error 6 im happy with the 7870 but a lot of people are claiming 700 from the 7970 on cgminer but every time i load it goes crazy with both cards as i have still not figured out how to set it up for 2.

you'll have to setup a couple accounts, dwolla and okpay are the ones i use, it takes several days to get those accounts going and funded.

Ya, I'm not sure about setting up 2 on the same box. I thought I read somewhere about other people having the same problem. Do you have reaper in 2 separate folders with separate config files? I'd assume you would just have to set "device 0" in one config, and "device 1" in the other.

That might be down to pool-x and coinotron down all the time im loosing too much and need a better pool

I think it's the "Use stratum" bit that's causing me problems... it's sending JSON rather than HTTP.

Now that I've set it to no, cgminer.exe starts but then dies (with nasty Windows problem dialog box) after a few seconds. Can't win.

You have an older version of OpenCL installed. You can actually just drop a newer version of "amdocl.dll" directly in your cgminer folder to fix it.

Cheers... it is amdocl.dll which is crashing. One question though, does that work with XP?

guiminer-scrypt must do something different because I was running guiminer (BTC) only a week ago without any probs.

i was wondering, prolly a stupid question but why doesn't bfl and avalon keep all their rigs to themselves instead of selling em for $1300-ish? seems like if they can make up a fancy ic, they can figure out how to run under the radar mining a shit ton without disrupting the chain.

Don't forget energy requirements, networking, heat dissipation, space, and manpower.

ASICMINER is the only outfit that is deploying their own chips right now. They have something like 6TH running and plan on deploying 200TH+ within the next few months.

The ROI from the IPO price is insane.

those are the ones that make me nervous right now, in fact, what's weird to me is what is going to happen when all those asics come online, i mean if that company you mention is prepped for a, what is that, 30x increase, there are tons more coming online at the same time, that's massive increase in computing power.......i guess the current algo accounts for that in real time.

Atmel have a dedicated SHA256 chip in a tiny 3 pin package which I was looking into a while ago, but they're not meant for high speed hashing, so you'd need hundreds or thousands of them to do anything useful with BTC mining. Pity. :D

Got my GFX card working finally, mining is blasting along at an amazing 13khashes/sec. Haha. It's only a little 5450 so it's not that surprising.

I have a 4 core xeon server at a webhost which is only 5% utilised, I reckon it could hash faster than that. Now to find a CPU based miner that will compile on unix...

Turns out the xeon isn't really that fast either, only 3k hashes/sec per core (so 9k/s when using 3 cores), but at the current LTC value that's still a few bucks a month. The server is otherwise barely utilised (mostly I/O rather than CPU bound) so I'm just going to leave it running. It's gravy... very slowly dripping onto my plate...

yes but those aren't free 2.23ltc, I mean you use electricity, your vga card etc..

I've only one card in my pc, so yes I used that for mining, however I had to lower the intensity to 10-11.

Well, think mining coins as an investment. It's a bit risky, but who knows maybe worth on the long run while the difficulty is not too high.

I think building rigs is the way to mine, playing with our desktops is just for fun.

If i understand correctly a mining op now need a place, electricity, some cooling and a few tousand dollar worth of hardware...

I just don't know if it's too late or not.

Yes its an investment, but you can just easily buy those 2ltc's for a few bucks and you dont need to worry about anything else

I mean it's just not worth it

I did some calcs and figured that the OC 7770 that I just bought tonight will pay for itself within about a month. That's if LTC stays at its current value. May even be worth mining some BTC at its current value.

HD 7770 mining LTC = ~$4 profit/day
HD 7770 mining BTC = ~$1 profit/day

I've just been reading about how Intel's CPU microcode updates are SHA256 signed. This most likely means that every modern Intel x86 CPU can generate/verify SHA256 "on chip" ... in hardware. Unlikely to be of any practical use, but pretty cool nevertheless.
