"But if you’re looking for a reason why Apple offed the 17-inch now, you need go no further than the 15-inch Retina display MacBook Pro. Not only does it offer the most cutting edge technology of any Apple laptop to date, but its 2880-by-1800 pixel display outstrips the 17-inch’s 1920-by-1200 resolution with room to spare. Add in the fact that the new MacBook Pro is thinner and lighter—to the tune of more than 2 pounds—and it seems pretty clear that the Retina display model is the new target for what a powerhouse portable should be."

Hate to break it to you sport but if you want to "see" things, get some fucking monitors. Laptops weren't designed to be used as daily work machines, they're designed to be portable.

Dafuk?
Been working on 17" laptops for years.
I have a screen of course, 22" is more then enough, but working on 15" is really not
convenient, 17" is what it starts at to be good. I travel a lot, so carrying a monitor
around would be sick lol.

Peace, motherfucka.

Hi Sid70,

What you should do is go to an Apple store and check out the new Macbook 15" with Retina display. This machine is incredible and much better than the previous version. DamianJ is exactly right. It's much lighter, much faster, and the screen, though 2 diagonal inches smaller, is easier to read and is higher resolution. And I don't know where you go this idea from, but you don't have to zoom-in to see detail (but you can if your eyes aren't what they once were..!)

I myself have the Macbook Air 13" because I wanted something small and light and with the longest possible battery life (I get about 10 hours actual time with actual normal use). The Macbook and Macbook pro both come with SSD drives which of course make them super light and super super fast.

Really... go check them out.

Cheers!

It's about convenient, acceptable size of what you can generally see on the screen, seeing a crisp apple size of a cherry is not convenient. And, no doubt, it's nearly $4k for a decent machine.

It's 2 inches smaller and has 'shit loads' more pixels. Much lighter, much better battery, and much faster.

It starts at $1999 for the 15.

Go and look at one and then you'll see it's not making apples the size of cherries.

But, whatever, they stopped making the 17" two years ago because they weren't selling as well and as they've not brought it back since, I'd wager it's unlikely they will.

So, aside from moaning, your choices are, get a heavy slow 17" PC and hackintosh it, or get the 15" and enjoy not putting your back out when you carry it around.

Actually, they did something right.

It made them really hold their value so when I sold mine, I got almost all of my money back out of it

I hear you, but still... go see one for yourself. One thing really cool is that Apple peeps will leave you alone to test the machine out as much as you want. Take some video clips or pictures on a USB drive and load them up to see how it looks on that screen. If its not for you its not for you but at least you'll know.

One other thing: These machines have built-in Air Play. I don't know if you've ever tried it or not but you can connect to a big-assed monitor or TV with it without losing any speed or resolution. I edit video then preview it on a TV without a single messy cable and its awesome.

Why the heck you go out of the way to ensure your new laptop must be Mac?
I mean you are not one of those fanboys, just recently you considered lenovo.
Just go pick 17 inch laptop and do not overpay for the logo.

If it was easy to spend 3k id def buy a Mac. No questions asked.

Lenovo - nice design, bad angles
HP - fucking sick of it
Mac - love my 13 incher
so..

fuck knows, i'm hesitant.

At one shop they say Lenovo is now top notch, but my experience says its better to get a lower model of a good brand then a top model of the unknown...

I will take another look at Lenovo.

Got the mbp 13" retina a couple of months ago to replace by aging (and dead) 15" mbp from 4 years ago. I'd say the 13" is even a better portable choice than the 15" as it's by far lighter and yet is great screen resolution on the move. The wife has the 11" mba, which imo is far too small.

I don't care on screen real estate for all my work as that is handled by the 27" imac, which is just great. The two together make for a great personal workflow that works pefectly for me. YMMV.

iMac 27" late 2009 that my son just got when I replaced it with a newer iMac 27" late 2013.
No problems, nor had I read of anything major about them as you so call.
The 2009 iMac I had was except from the "dirty screen" problem I read about, but apart from that....

I'd say if battery life was important, then stay away from the mbp and go the mba way - I have the mbp ssd 13" and yet it's impossible (even with display right down to a couple of bars) to get anything more than 3-4 hours of normal continuous wifi usage. The 11" MBA as a comparison in my hands easily gets at least 8 hrs.

For my laptop, I don't require massive processing as most is done on the desktop, so I'm pretty pissed at myself not to have gone the MBA 13" route, rather than the MBP 13"
