Harmon, there's a few reasons for this (my opinion only).

1. The dwindling of affiliate revenues has weeded out a lot of the hobbyists and people who lived for today, not tomorrow. Those people have likely moved on to some other revenue venture.

2. For the same reason above, a larger percentage of the people still in the business probably realize it takes more effort than previously to retain their existing revenue and traffic levels, and certainly to increase them.

3. There's a LOT of business that has moved off GFY and onto other areas. There's always been business done outside of GFY, but it's even moreso these days. Speaking for myself, GFY used to be around 60% of my revenue leads 8 years ago. Today it is less than 5%. The rest comes from other boards and sources outside GFY.

4. My own guess is that a lot of the people that used to post here and who are successful have started families and/or spend more time focusing on their business and diversifying their revenue sources.

5. GFY really isn't much of a business oriented board at all. In fact, it's about the least business oriented of those I frequent. This is basically a repeat of point #3.

The end result is you have much fewer people with less time available to hang out on the board versus a few years ago when revenues came easily and it attracted everyone from the serious to the hobbyists. It's all centered around revenues. It's easy to waste time when the money is rolling in.

Alexa is worst possible method to determine forum traffic,as you could have a single user refreshing board thousand time a day and site would gain good alexa rank only due that.
