Haven't installed any of these for years, what would you recommend? Simple shop, categories and products, responsive a plus but not the must. They're selling shirts, cups with logos, pencils - that kind of shit.

Need something simple to maintain yet idiot proof as it's for a friend

Wordpress e-commerce theme/plugin?
Open source?
Paid one?

oscommerce is best and got thousands free plugins to get anything u want done
we already did many shopping carts using this script

i remember it (and many others) from 10+ years ago but ended up with cs-cart at the time

Anything "open source" is vulnerable to hackers, especially "shopping cart" where your money get collected... "Save $ 100 dollars now, loose thousands later" Not a good motto

Second that. They have a monthly fee of $20 but if you care about your friend you should set it up for him/her because shopify.com make it their business to head off problems before they occur.
