Question for Dog Lovers (disturbing content)
I'm a cat person, not a dog person. I like dogs but I've never owned one so I don't know much about them really.
Just now, I was out for a ride and I heard what sounded like several dogs yelping really loudly from about 5 houses down the block. The yelps were coming from some back yard. When I got there and looked over the fence I saw 2 dogs freaking out and yelping in the back yard while a 3rd dog was pinned under a guy. The guy was holding the dog by his throat and looked like the guy was biting the dog's neck or face. The dog was also yelping. Someone had called the cops and they were talking to the guy. I left so I don't know if he was arrested or not. One of the neighbours says that he has "special" dogs but my french isn't good enough to know what he meant. I have no idea what kind of dogs they were. They looked bigger than puppies but smaller than collies. I'd have to say they looked like the same size as poodles. They were white but may have had some black on them too. Is there any kind of dog that requires that kind of training? I know dogs can get out of control sometimes and you need to whack them in the butt with a newspaper, but this looked and sounded like outright animal abuse to me because the pinned dog was obvously scared and in a shitload of pain, and the other dogs were obviously very upset. Am I missing something or is this kind of "training" normal for certain kinds of dogs?

Doesn't seem like you missed anything. You're better than me. I would have had to throw something at him.

I spend a lot of time with dogs and if you would see some of the actions I have had to take without seeing what happened moments prior then you would think I am an animal abuser. I have had to do leaping kicks, picking up a small dog and throwing it like a football over the fence to save its life, picking up a pit bull by its back legs and spinning and launching the dog over a fence to save the life of a smaller dog, etc etc. So far I a have never had a cunt human criticize me but I am actually shocked that has not happened.
Not saying this guy was trying to save the life of one of the other dogs but perhaps that was the case. I would read your post more carefully but I basically turned everything out after reading "I'm a cat person". Cats can be awesome if they are indoor/outdoor cats and go out into the world and kill rodents but if they sit around the house and shit/piss in a litter box and then go eat some Tender Vittles followed by another 10 hour nap then I see them as vile self serving creatures. If dogs lay around the house and get fat they are still awesome. |

Is somebody hurting a dog? I'll choke the shit out of them.

you shouldn't have to hurt them ever to train them. even e-collars only give them a little zap that doesn't do any harm. I don't like those myself but they are better than most alternatives. anything more than a light pop on the nose is too much in my eyes, unless its attacking you of course.

Indeed, negative re-enforcement doesn't teach a dog anything except FEAR.

I did aggession training, obedience training and search and rescue training with a Doberman that I had years back. I have had to see instances where a dog was out of control and had to be dealt with by hanging by its choker until it submitted, released and when it tried to attack again the choker tightened again. To be fair, the owner (an older man who appeared never to have trained his dog in the first place) had to get the dog out of the back of his car, while wearing those tough leather gloves that you see powerline workers use. After a few instances where the dog realized that he wasn't the alpha he started to learn his place in the pack, but he never went home with the old guy.
It was horrific to watch, but the result was that while the dog would always have to have a stronger handler, he didn't have to be put down. Perhaps the dog that the guy was laying on was a problematic dog that he was trying to introduce to the two others but it got out of control. This is all speculative of course.

I didn't say I don't like dogs, I said I'm more of a cat person. Sorry if you don't approve.

Maybe the guy who was doing this to the dog is the same type of "trainer" my guy was. I ended up having to use the e-collar for my dog, he listened like a very good dog should after that. I'm feeling like he needs a refresher. Ornery, large dog who I can't handle when he is feeling excited. I am an advocate of it. |

To me too, i have never seen that in my life. People who bite in the ears of dogs as 'training' are probably better off in a mental institution.

As a sidenote, pinning a dog down on its back and holding it there is a common dog training technique known as alpha rolling.

They actually do pin the dog down, and try to roll on each other putting their shoulder in first, and putting their whole mouth around the neck to hold them there (not really biting them). It lasts a few seconds before they let the other dog up Maybe? Just maybe that's what the guy was doing. Hopefully anyway. |

This incredibly poor attempt at deductive reasoning forced you to conclude that people must bite dogs to train them? Seriously man... You need fucking help. You literally have the intellectual capacity of a child and it seems to be slipping daily. You've always been dumb - for example having all your software in Java well after Microsoft stopped including Java with windows and taking YEARS to switch to flash and being one of the last to do so, but even for you, this thread is stupid. |
