Not happening fast enough and I'm starting to get bored
Unfortunately, I get bored easily and I sometimes expect results too soon. I don't have anything to compare results to. My site, which is kind of a combo tgp, video, and story site, is on page 2 of google now. It jumps from the last spot on 2 to the first spot on 3 from hour to hour for my keyword phrase. It's not even close to page 10 or even 15 with my main keyword or the other keywords I use on the site.
I've been blogging on it 2 to 3 times per day. On the posts I don't write myself I change the title, change the word content. I change the picture tags and alt. I use Yoast to help me make sure the keywords I'm focusing on are all there. I have links out on tumblr and twitter that get posted daily with retweets and conversation from its own twitter account as well as a couple of others I have. I have it linked from various blogs, tube sites, search engines, and youtube. What am I missing? Am I just being impatient? lol I might be thinking too many things for one blog (pics, vidz, stories), but it is one niche. I have written blog posts scheduled out until April 2015 with unique verbage. How long should I give it to rank or make money until I decide to take the posts that are waiting for release and slap them on other small niche sites? |

What are you doing wrong? Who fucking knows. Whatever it is, you are doing wrong. Google has no rhyme or reason other than quality. Make sure you adhere to all of their Nazi-esque guidelines... or get a budget and start advertising for top spot. It's stupid. |

What keywords are they targeting in addition to the keyword(s) that you're trying to rank for ? If you're on page 2 then you might as well be on page 20 unless it's a very sought out niche that has an audience hungry for anything they can find related to your keywords - which is rare. Most clicks are on page one, the majority of those are on position 1 or 2. |

If you are relying on Google for your income then THAT'S what you are doing wrong.

A simple way to see how you can improve is to take a long, hard look at the sites that rank better than you for your chosen keywords and ask yourself what they are doing that you are not. You are basically going to have to make a site that Google sees as being a better site than your competitors.

i've got plugs, a main tumblr and a "friend" tumblr, a main twitter and a friend twitter, some ABC link trades, i have a few blogs that chat about the fetish and mention the site a few times. i'm not relying on google, i just want to be on the first page.

i might just let it stew for awhile with the autoposts going up and create a couple of secondary domains using the same keywords and see if i can rank those and learn more about what will work. one problem might be the site sat for awhile. it's not a new domain, it just wasn't doing anything big until a few days ago. |

The difference between average and great is the willingness to endure boredom.

i use most of the keywords and phrases from the fetish in the posts and titles at least once. i'm going to read up again on all their stuff and see how they're doing it, how long the articles are, how many times, etc. i personally have found google searching to be so annoying lately. most data i'm looking for is really outdated from articles 4 to 5 years ago or the article is spammed through 100 different blogs and just repeated word for word, exactly what google claims it doesn't do but does. it sucks. |

I used to be page 1, number one spot for 'British cumslut' when my partner designed our very first website, then given to another designer, as the design was obviously amateur, he messed up on SEO & my spot has moved down yearly. I'd like to see MILF or pornstar, maybe cumslut, but those places are so hard with all the high ranking tube sites now ![]()

You also need to know what your competitors are doing to get rankings above you. If you are able to analyse your competitors and their competitors in the niche then you will find common weaknesses that you can exploit. More often that not it's your competitors strengths that make it hard to rank, things like domain authority, page authority, domain age, backlinks, keyword competitiveness and so on. There are keywords that you will just have no hope ranking for because tubes have such authority, so you need to target a whole bunch of long tail keywords related to your niche and rank for those. You will also find as you gain rankings for longer tail keywords that you'll have more chance of ranking for more valuable and competitive keywords. Are you ranking for anything at the moment ? How are you checking that ? |

I'm going to make a list of all the popular key phrases, keywords, and the long phrases I use tonight and see where it puts me. I'm also going to try to use the keyword tool and the wheel, if it's still around, to see if there are others I'm missing and check the articles to see what they're putting in. I want to learn and know how to do all of this because I want to succeed. I really appreciate everything people have said so far. It's been helpful. Another thing I might be doing wrong is making it too spammy or maybe it sounds a lot like all the others out there. I assume when google says "we have 192 other results that look the same" or whatever the phrase is they're using. I try to be a little unique and make up stories that look related to the video. I don't want to make it too far off so people think they're buying something else. or do they even care? |

This is the one that I use, but there are a few on the market. I use it daily. For this particular model, you add your URL and also which engine you want to be searching. Then you can add many keywords for your URL. It will track a variety of metrics for you. This is not something that you should be checking manually for a variety of reasons. It's not accurate, it's a waste of time, etc. etc.

I'm also thinking about making the actual post look more article like. I don't know if that will make a difference, but it will be fun. Different placement of the images might just help the bounce rate. I know when it was a photo with just text the bounce rate was 98%. I added videos and dirtier it went to 50% to 60%. I'm assuming bounce rate might make a difference as well.

Google personalises search results, what you want to see is non personalised results and the only way to do this is to get the ranking data from a variety of different clients in different locations. To do this at scale requires either a cloud service, like WebCEO or RankTrackr. You can also use a desktop based solution like SEO PowerSuite. RankTrackr can be had for around $20 per month to start but I don't like it for a variety of reasons. WebCEO is good but not cheap. Desktop based SEO Powersuite is very good but you need to invest a fair chunk of change to buy it initially and then you have to pay for search algorithm updates after the first six month. But tracking your rank is only part of the solution, you also need to know what your competitors are doing and find weaknesses in their rankings for competitive keywords in your niche and the only way to do that is invest in serious SEO toolsets. You'll find while there's some overlap in these services they have their own unique tools and you'll have to consider how much you want to invest for the return on that investment. If you have a blog making $100 a month then it's no sense to be subscribing to Moz, Raven Tools, WebCEO or SpyFu because you'll be spending a couple of hundred a month just to subscribe a couple of those that you choose. Even if you spend the money on tools, you need to know how to use them, which means you really need to have a solid understanding of how search engines use ranking signals and how to ensure your website ticks as many boxes as possible. Even if you get this down, like someone else said, relying on Google alone for your traffic is a bad idea because one algorithmic change could decimate your business overnight. Just be aware that there are these tools available and that as a result people with a serious investment in search are using them effectively to push you down in the rankings and push themselves up.
