Meal prep - anybody doing it?

Random video:

It seems like most of these vids are done by gym goers, but I am thinking of doing this to save time.

Good/bad idea?

I used to when I worked out of the house. Good way to have a healthy quick meal.

I do it.

Fresh may be better, but naturally we have terrible habits. Need food quick? Typically eat crap. Preparing in advance is a much better solution.

I usually have 2-3 different ones in my refrigerator.

2-3 meals only? Might make sense to make at least 5-10 in one batch

Post some of your recipes.

I do a lot of meal prep when I'm dieting. Makes it so much easier to measure all the food and get your numbers perfect so you can stay on track.

Certain foods like chili or stews and soups I like to do in batches and freeze. I make chicken fingers and breaded chicken cutlets in batches and freeze. Really it's no more work making multiple portions than it is making a single meal. Veggies I like doing the day of since they are quick

What kind of soups do you suggest for freezing?
You make everything by a portion (many containers instead one big one)?

You are overthinking things.

Make things that you like in bulk. Freeze what you don't want today or tomorrow. Section them off in premade meals to make things really easy.

If you are into health, prepare healthy options and weigh them out accordingly.

My protein:
chicken, salmon, tuna, cod, sea bass

My carbs:
rice

My vegetables:
broccoli, green beans, mixed vegetables, sweet potatoes

I'm not a health buff but I like to eat clean when I'm not at a restaurant so when I'm at a restaurant I can eat whatever I want. ;-)

I am watching some youtube videos, usually guys mix it up. For example makes 3 different chickens (different sauces etc), also adds either rice, or quinoa, or sweet potatoes. So mix it all up and you get pretty different meals.
And not only 3 different chickens, but could be chicken + ground meat + fish, to mix it even more.

Plus, even if you make one exact thing, you could not eat it that often, these may be extra food for some occasions, like once in 2 days etc. So with all the other non prepped meals there will be no repetition.

Pretty much what Sly said. Any puréed soups(squash, potato, tomato, broccoli). Those are great because you can take leftover mashed potatoes, or broccoli stalks, asparagus ends etc and re purpose them. Soup takes about 30 mins to make.

I have a vacuum sealer that I portion them out in. Allows for easy storage and thawing. Usually for one meal for 3 people and maybe a lunch for one the next day.

I cook more than I can eat, recipes are usually for 3-5 peeps. .. so I cook a few days a week and eat leftovers from different stuff though out the week, and then sometimes I just eat hotdogs or hamburgers.. simple stuff with no prep, because I live alone, when I had family responsibilities different story.

I think this is a good idea. You could be sure about the quality of products that you`re going to eat.

I already answered about routine. It is pretty easy to mix stuff that you get pretty much different containers of food. Lets say easy to make 6 different in one cooking. So if you eat once a day there is no routine.

As for time - it takes MUCH less to prep 12 meals than to cool 12 separate meals... Maybe that does not make sense in woman's logic, which we know is different kind of logic

I purchased someone's shopping list and recipes for 24 meals from Aldi for $165. It's not a bad list and there's not much in the way of processed crap in the recipes. I modified it a bit, but it's still a month worth of dinners (always leftovers and there are 6 of us) for under $200. It takes me a few hours on a Sunday or Monday when no one is around to prepare and get it all into the freezer.

That I can do. Cooking meals on a Sunday to be eaten all week, no can do. I can't do leftovers if they sit for much more than 24 hours.

You mean you could not do 3 prepared meals per day for whole week? Because otherwise it sounds like you are ok with 1 month worth of prepared meals, but somehow not with 1 week's worth of.
Just clarifying
