Found out today my 7 year old daughter is learning about Onomatopoeia words..

I had no idea what it is and I am in my 40's.

Anyone else know what Onomatopoeia words are without Googling.

That is where the word is the sound? Like the old Batman cartoons? BAM, SMACK, BOOM!

Gonna Google after I click to post.

Correct. It is basically a word that describes a sound and when spoken aloud sounds like the sound it describes. For example, hiss. The word hiss describes a sound, but when you say the word it actually sounds like you are hissing.

For me, it is one of those strange things that have stuck with me. I likely first learned it in grade school and I just like the way the word onomatopoeia sounds so it has just stuck with me. I likely couldn't tell you half of what I was taught in grade school, but I remember what this is.

It's interesting that man from Paris and man from London will not use the same word to describe the sound of cats/dogs, and animals in those cities sound the same.

It is interesting. When I think of the word hiss, I think of cats hissing. A lof of people, however, would think of snakes.
