Who here has an oculus rift?

If you have one, are you playing Eve: Valkyrie?

Asking for a friend.

I've got a Vive - It's cool but I recommend against buying it. It's not something you can have on your head and play games for hours at a time because it really fucks with your head as far as what's real and what's not. I've played it a total of maybe 3 hours since I bought it... Any games like space sims/racing games almost instantly make me want to vomit (basically anything you play sitting). Walking around games are great though.

That Eve Valkyrie game rocks on the Oculus. But yeah I tried it and about 45 minutes was all I could stand.

It depends. Some people enjoy it for hours nonstop.

Just like with cars... Some people just drive it, others get fascinated. Both Vive and Rift are great

I've been playing eve valkyrie with ps VR. At first the motion would mess with me a bit but now it's just when I do too many barrel rolls in a row. Definitely a sweet VR game, every time that ship launches oooooooohhhh

that's a common problem with VR and not limited to the Vive - your body is confused cause he thinks you move but you don't.

I do. I just test with it though for the most part. After a day of watch our porn in it, a game seems a bit much.

Hi k0nr4d,

If you get sick playing with it, it might be a speed issue.

When you turn your head, the vestibular system in your ears helps your brain to determine where it is in space, what direction its pointing at, what angle, etc.

Your eyes need to exactly match what your brain is expecting to see thanks to info from the vestibular system. If instead it gets a mismatch, your brain thinks it is poisoned and prompts your stomach to eject the poison and make you throw up.

The mismatch might be caused by speed. Your computer may be too slow to update the Vive fast enough. Try experimenting with settings to get the best speed you can.

Good luck!

Hey,
It's not a speed thing, my computer is plenty fast. With sitting down games like racing or flying I get sick *instantly*. On games like Accounting, or The Lab or any shit like where you are moving normally it's perfectly fine. The only thing that bothers me about those is kind of "loss of sense of self" so to speak. If I play for an hour or two and then take it off, I get worried i will walk into an invisible wall when i'm walking through the house or suddenly feel like I need to teleport instead of walk. I have issues with anxiety/panic attacks and I think the VR experience kind of triggers them.

Yes thats exactly how it bothers me... I'm fine with pitching and yawing movement, but rolling makes me kind of dizzy. Doesnt make me want to throw up, just makes me feel very off balance. Kind of hard to describe.

Oh shit, that's totally different. I wonder though, if you asked a doctor, if he or she could even give you any advice for that? VR is so new...

Anyway, good luck! I hope you find a way to enjoy your new gear as much as you want to.
