Rachel Maddow claims to have President Drumpf's tax returns

Seems Rachel Maddow has Trump's tax returns.... And will tell us about them tonight at 9pm.

Might be worth watching.

Thanks for The heads up!

The typical billionaires personal tax returns don't usually have a lot of detailed info about where all their money is buried.

Bigger picture, something is going on. Trump is trying to crush Paul Ryan over the healthcare bill having his surrogates on TV call it RyanCare and having Brietbart realease audio today of Ryan talking shit on Trump.

These tax returns are Ryan's people hitting back at Trump and tomorrow Comey will be live on TV testifying about Trump/Russia connections before a congressional subcommittee.

Very interesting I'll be tuned on for sure 20 minutes from now ET but I don't get it live here in Cali so will have to scrounge online and see if anyplace broadcast her show live.

Ok so the WH is trying to get ahead of the story and just released a statement saying it's just 2 pages of tax docs:

In 2005 Trump made about $150 million and paid about $38 million in taxes

I've never been a fan of Rachel Maddow, but I have a new level of respect for her. It wasn't so much the tax returns but the first twenty minutes of her show detailing multiple connections to Russia and other foreign governments. For example, Wilbur Ross, the new Commerce, was (is?) the CEO of the Bank Of Cyprus which has been charged as laundering money for the Russian government. Trump also has a building in Turkey, where Micheal Flynn was registered was acting as a "agent of a foreign power".

My favorite one was the house in Florida. He bought the house for $20 million, but sold it a few years later during the recession as local house prices was dropping for $95 million. He sold to a "Russian business man" named Dmitry Rybolovlev, who has ties to the Bank Of Cypress. Although Trump denies knowing Dmitry Rybolovlev, his plane seems to follow Trump's plan around, and it seems his yacht has been parked next to the one of the top Trump donors more often than not.

Come on... Let's connect the dots here.

Trumps Redhat followers don't care as long as they habe an excuse to be racist.

Trumps moderate voters are watching all the pieces come together and the healthcare repeal debacle has caused more than 15 GOP moderate conressman to step forward against the bill.

2 months in & Trump has failed at every endevor so far, not one success yet other than his executive order removing the bank regulations to protect us from another crash.

She said recently that the practice around her office is to not pay attention to Tweets or anything his administration says. They're paying to attention to what he does, instead of chasing the shiny objects they dangle for the media on a daily basis. Every night she's connecting dots.

so all her fake news impressed you, & the fact she spewed a bunch of unproven innuendos but revealed literally nothing of value in the taxes while hyping it up?

you are aware the twittersphere is mocking her, laughing at her, right?

no, you're not. keep respecting her. she has you hook-in-mouth.

I like Rachel Maddow, especially on complex stories like this. She explains it well, and provides proof to backup everything she says. Even cooler, after she explains something she asks her guest if she explained it and understood it right. She's also fast to let her viewers know when she got something wrong or made a mistake. I think she's one of the smartest people on TV.

Really? You're quoting "mrctv.org"? Who are they? Why not go to the source instead? https://twitter.com/maddow/status/841795163664089089. No laughs there.

Granted, "Maddow has Trump's Tax Returns" is an unfortunately sensational headline that isn't worthy of a Fox News "News Alert". She only had 2 pages, and they're from 2005, so the headline is ... well... kind of meh. But she still brings up important questions and issues that you and every other American should be asking. Just because you don't like Rachel Maddows doesn't mean you should give Trump a pass. Focus.

Here's why her report was important, and, what should have been your take-away from it.

- Trump was still benefitting from his giant business failure '96.
- He paid a very low tax rate. He paid 6.9% LESS than you did.
- Maddow doing this scared the shit out of him. Did you see and read the Whitehouse statement about tonight's show? Here's what it said:

Quote:
Before being elected President, Mr. Trump was one of the most successful businessmen in the world with a responsibility to his company, his family and his employees to pay no more tax than legally required," the press office said in a statement. "That being said, Mr. Trump paid $38 million dollars even after taking into account large scale depreciation for construction, on an income of more than $150 million dollars, as well as paying tens of millions of dollars in other taxes such as sales and excise taxes and employment taxes and this illegally published return proves just that
How stupid are they? Maddow has the right to do this. 1st amendment, anyone? Fucking christ. Why do you continue to support such a disfunctional, completely stupid, equipped doofus with ties to the Mob, Russians, and communist China? For such a flag-waving patriot, you sure do act like a commie!

Peace.

2 lousy pages from 12 years ago and then she digs into the business dealings of a trans-nationalist with other trans-nationalists. So some extremely rich guy did business with some other extremely rich guy and that's news?

Personally I want to know what kind of toilet paper Trump uses. Is it the cheap kind I pick up at 4 rolls for a buck in the Hindu dollar store or is his paper made from silk worms?

And honestly is there nothing better on TV?

Why is it only Trump who is being targetted for not paying as much taxes as he could?

He's using legal ways to avoid taxes that all the owners of the media that are now lambasting him use. He;s a rich businessman using laws that were passed to make rich businessmen richer.

He's using the same laws most people here would use if they had enough money. Even so who here doesn't minimise their taxes?

While you complain about taxes, you also complain about borrowing to make up the difference between spending and revenue. Then complain the Government doesn't spend enough on infrastructure. While allowing the Health industry to rip you apart with charges.

As more people lose more jobs paying a decent wage, the future means you pay more in taxes or the country goes broke.

Come on... Let's connect the dots here.

Real estate is being purchased by foreigners in California and New York like wildfire, no one cared until Trump sold a house.

Yeah, I agree. I like Rachel Maddow and watch her show often. To her credit it was a good report, but it was overhyped. She has a solid record otherwise.

Because he's Potus. Because he didn't release his tax returns like every other president and presidential candidate for the last 50 years. Because he seems to have shady business deals. Because those shady business deals may make him beholden to a non-friendly power. Because he could use the assets of the US or the power of his job to pay back any personal debts, etc. Releasing his tax returns would answer many, maybe all, of those questions.

True.. but then again, there might be more tax returns coming, and maybe she will be the first to break the news about them again. Hopefully.

I just see this as a marketing / overhype goof. Of course the report was underwhelming compared to the hype. She's a tough woman, she'll zoom right though this.

it was incomplete because he leaked it himself and also from 12 years ago. 2005 was an odd choice as well. it's the most recent ones that would be suspect if at all.

Mostly because he is the President. And mostly because he is rich. But mostly because he wrote off $150 million off of his taxes.

I believe there was some discussion about Romney's taxes.

What kind of fucking bullshit is this? Trump wrote off $150 for "construction" while in reality every building he owns most likely went up in value.

Doesn't matter. Your deductions are keeping tax money out of the hands of the poor. Lead the way to change and reform. Be a hero.

what does "making hundreds of millions" have to do with anything? do you realize that he paid more in taxes that year, than you and everyone else in this thread combined will pay their entire lives?

That's not a very accurate statement Mark.

I don't know how taxes work in Canada...But watching the business networks today, the consensus was that Trump paid roughly 25% in taxes that year.
Every one of them said that Trump way OVER paid and he needs to get a better accountant.

Just because you see a tax rate and ASSUME that Trump paid less than other people is a fallacy.

NOBODY pays the full rate. The full rate is the starting point before deductions Mark.
It's why I pay an accountant. No way I would ever pay the actual amount with no deductions.

What tax experts are saying is that Trump should have had more aggressive deductions but probably didn't because he was extra conservative with it because of his celebrity and the IRS watching famous people very carefully.

Now that I am thinking about it.... I honestly believe we need to go to some kind of a flat tax. This would eliminate deductions entirely.

To further extrapolate that Trump paid more than he should have:
Op-Ed: Donald Trump just got a nice victory, thanks to, of all people, Rachel Maddow

That is CNBC...another NBC property and sister channel to MSNBC. CNBC is the BUSINESS version.
And even they are saying that Maddow actually HELPED Trump by showing how much he paid and made herself look silly.

I was a "flat tax" guy back in the 1990's. But now that I'm older...I think a national sales tax (excluding food) would be the real way to go.

Why should anybody ever be taxed on how much money they make? It's ridiculous when you really think about it.

But a national sales tax would make more sense.

The more money you make...the more expensive stuff you buy. So billionaires would be paying a lot (unless it was some crazy eccentric billionaire who lives like a homeless bum)

And not only that...but all the "cash only" people like waitress tips, dancers, prostitutes, drug dealers, etc. would then be paying federal taxes too when they spend all that money.

It would also eliminate 12 billion dollars in IRS "expenditures" and we could eliminate that agency.
All we need is the Treasury Dept. to count the money (they already do that...the IRS is just the collection agency).

It would be a win/win across the board.

And people who are frugal and save money would actually be rewarded instead of punished just for earning it in the first place.

It would encourage hard work and ambition as opposed to people worried about their "tax bracket" (you can actually make LESS money after taxes by making MORE money at your job when you are on the cusp of moving up to the next bracket)

I actually favor the flat tax. I'd even be ok with under $1m at 15% and over at 20%.

Consumption makes the most sense to me too. I just fear it wouldn't take long for them to add back in an income tax on top of the higher consumption taxes.

Two pages from a 12 year old return that was "leaked"

this is likely the year he made/paid the most taxes...

This "leak" shows nothing when it comes to sources of income and therefore nothing about Russia either way

Basically its meaningless....if all his returns looked like this why not just release them?

and yeah 150M might seem like a lot but its not even in the stratosphere of the income he boasts about

Sure it is.
He's worth 10 billion total. Making 150 million in just one year is pretty damn good.
