It would give emergency services much more localized warning systems than what we have now.. but Trump's FCC gave them the pass...

Congressman Cruz was just on the news calling this the biggest storm Texas has seen in five hundred years..... So I am guessing it is in fact unprecedented.....

Your "guessing" at facts based on comments from someone you would normally discount out of hand is laughable.

Even if it is the worst in 500 hundred years doesn't mean that bad storms don't happen frequently. It just means this new storm has set the new record. It doesn't mean that all of the previous bad storms get erased from memory.

Significant Houston Area Floods

List of wettest tropical cyclones in the United States (Texas)

Quote:
The most serious threat from tropical cyclones in Texas residents is from flooding, from both Gulf of Mexico hurricanes and tropical storms and the remnants of Eastern Pacific storms. The worst aspect about tropical cyclones is that the weaker they are, the more efficient they can be at producing heavy rains and catastrophic flooding. Systems with sprawling circulations, such as Hurricane Beulah, also tend to make good rainmakers.[93] Slow moving systems, such as Tropical Storm Amelia also can produce significant rainfall over the Lone Star State. Amelia's storm total rainfall is the most recorded within the contiguous United States.[94] Tropical Storm Claudette holds the national 24-hour rainfall record for the United States, with 42 inches (1,100 mm) falling within a day.[95]

And, predictably, lost in the all the media hype around this storm is the fact that it has been 12 years since the last major hurricane made landfall on the US mainland. And this current storm is the first cat 4 storm to hit Texas since 1961.

Deadly Hurricanes Are Nothing New to Texas

History of hurricanes in Texas, by the numbers

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropic...m_Amelia_(1978)

Quote:
Amelia and its remnants set several records for rainfall and flooding. The Medina River crested at 45 feet (14 m), breaking the record for flood stage reached on the river that was set in 1919 at 43 feet (13 m) as well as breaking the record for water flow, or the rate in which water flows down the river, at 79 billion gallons per day.[37][42] Additionally, the Brazos River had its highest flooding since 1957.[36] Records were also set for flowing on the Guadalupe, which flowed at 149 billion gallons a day, more than twice the previous record and nearly 1500 times its usual rate of 100 million gallons per day.[37] The storm total of 48 inches (1,200 mm) measured at Medina is the wettest known storm total rainfall amount for both the state of Texas and any tropical cyclone impacting the continental United States.[49] A 12-hour total of 26 inches (660 mm) of rain at Abilene was an extreme example of the precipitation.[3]

He's doing these things because it then makes states dependant on him.. He is trying to cut out the checks and balances at every angle so everything has to go through him..

It's what dictators do.. Now he can make it all about "him granting" Texas money..

Trump will be removed by impeachment or by the people. One thing is sure he won't last 4 years.

It's called global warming for a reason. I know as a wannabe MERICAN you think the world revolves around the US but unfortunately the climate doesn't.

There has been with out a doubt a increase of cat 4 and 5 hurricanes world wide. This has happened because the oceans are warming.

The reason not many has hit the US is because the weather cycles have not pushed them to us. We are coming back into the cycle where they come to the US..

You are using right wing failed logic aginst to misrepresentat facts. You cherry pick little parts of something while ignoring the big picture to claim you are right.

Just stop the bull shit.. I mean honestly are you so tied to having to agree with right wing talking points that you willfully enjoy making a fool of yourself? When science can easily prove you wrong?

My last reply to you because you really are a clueless retarded blowhard. You are generally the most obtuse irritating cunt I have come across. Well, maybe you and Bladewire are tied in that regard.

Anyways, try to understand this chart while you cower under your bed afraid of all the predictions of doom that are coming to get you. I know it will be hard for you to understand it so just repeat to yourself - "there is no increase in storm activity due to global warming". In fact they have been decreasing. Globally. Maybe someday you'll get it but I doubt it.

You are using [left] wing failed logic aginst[sic] to misrepresentat[sic] facts. You cherry pick little parts of something while ignoring [reality] to claim you are right.

Just stop the bull shit.. I mean honestly are you so tied to having to agree with [left] wing talking points that you willfully enjoy making a fool of yourself? When [reality] can easily prove you wrong?

Local news just said over twenty-five inches of water has fallen on Houston in the past few days. They are expecting twenty-five inches more. It's possible we are only at the halfway point, meaning it's going to get much, much worse.

I didn't mis-understand anything. Trump is trying to remove funding for the very agencies we are now depending on in a natural disaster. Trump has no idea what he is doing. He doesn't even understand what these agencies do.

Sure, that is highly possible and extremely unfortunate if it does happen. But as pointed out above hurricane Amelia in 1978 dropped 48 inches of rain. Others were also quite bad. So again, this storm is not without precedent. It is not a new phenomenon caused by man-made global warming.

Trump sent aid and declared TX eligible for federal aid a week ago.

Hurricane Amelia in 1978 wasn't a hurricane at all, it was a tropical storm.

This is a hurricane that slammed into the coast, sat there, returned to the gulf, picked up more steam, and is about to slam back into Texas. Harvey has already dropped more rain than Amelia, and we are only half way through this.

Just to give you an example.... The damage during Amelia is $110 million dollars. Harvey is going estimated at $60 billion.

There is very little ANY president can do to fix this situation. It is a natural disaster and it is terrible. blaming one person or anyone is kind of stupid at this point.

I sort of agree.

However, I think right now our President can be doing so much more. He's signed some papers to allow some aid in, great. However, there is so much more that can be done.

For starters, instead of spending the day on a photo op that won't even involve seeing Houston, why not stay in Washington DC and working with Congress on a massive aid package?

Then he can start moving forward on some more long term things...
- Stop talking about reducing funding for government agencies that can help during natural disasters.
- Stop telling us climate change isn't real.
- Set up some kind of national urban search and rescue teams so thousands of people can independently operate with their own transportation, food, water, etc, so they can operate for a week or so in floods. This would be similar to how California handles fires where local fire departments respond to large fires hundreds of miles away.

All Trump is doing right now is the basics - the bare minimum. He's been in this job eight months now, he is not new to this; He has the vast resources of the entire United States government at his disposal... He needs to gather his staff together and say "What can we do to help the people of Texas AND make a long term change where we can help people during natural disasters for decades to come.

Hey Rockhead; you realize Congress is not in session, right?

I guess you forgot that there is more to TX than Houston, places that got hit first.

Yes I know that Amelia was a tropical storm. Does that somehow discount the amount of rain it dropped? One of the bits I posted further up actually said tropical storms can be more efficient at dropping lots of rain because of their generally slow moving nature.

And yes I see now that Harvey has surpassed Amelia. It still doesn't mean that it has anything to do with man made global warming at all. It's just a freak set of natural and unfortunate circumstances.

I know its easy to hide your head and sing lala and pretend nothing is happening, but for fuck sakes man, you and other science deniers need to grow up.
I am not a science denier - you are. And worse still you are a denier of reality. You are in no position to be telling anybody to grow up when you approach the subject with the mentality and naivete of an 8 year old.

It should be really simple for you - look at the chart I posted further up. It clearly shows that there is no increase in tropical cyclone activity. In fact there is a slight decrease. Do you deny that or do you simply ignore it because it causes you cognitive dissonance?

It is naive zealots like you that are set to upend civilization based on a lie.

Of course Trump not filling positions at FEMA and so many other govt agencies is not the problem at all. Obviously it must be Obama or Hillary's fault!

They build houses like that in the US as well in coastal areas, but usually even those get destroyed in these kinds of storms due to wind and the house being higher up. Hurricanes are not just flooding but also high wind.

Here are some specifically designed for Hurricanes in flood areas.. These survived because they were built for the high winds as well but as you see just being on stilts didnt save the others..

The biggest problems is older houses and local state govts with people who deny basic science aswell as allowing peope to build and develop land in places like that....

This is exactly my point.... Trump is going to wait until Congress comes back into session?

How about this instead... How about Trump figures out exactly who he needs to talk to in order to get this started, and demands they get on freaking airplane RIGHT NOW back to Washington DC to start planning this. Then if need be, call all of Congress back to vote on it. It's a natural disaster impacting the fourth largest city in the United States; Surely Congress wouldn't wait to take action. Right?

You have zero clue on how government works, do you? You think the President is the same as a king or something?
