Man detained by immigration officers after delivering pizza to Army base

Quote:
(CNN)A pizza delivery man could soon be deported after he was turned over to immigration officials after trying to drop off food at a military base in New York.

Pablo Villavicencio, 35, arrived at the Fort Hamilton base in Brooklyn last week to deliver an order from the brick-oven pizza restaurant in Queens where he worked. He showed his New York City identification card to the guard as he had done several times before, but it wasn't enough this time, his wife says.

Villavicencio, an undocumented immigrant from Ecuador, didn't have a "valid Department of Defense identification" and was asked to get a daily visitors pass, Fort Hamilton said in a statement.

He ended up "signing a waiver permitting a background check," which revealed there was an active warrant for Villavicencio's deportation and prompted military police to call immigration agents, the base and Immigration and Customs Enforcement said.

"He was doing his job, he wasn't committing a crime," his wife, Sandra Chica, told reporters. "He wasn't doing anything illegal other than working to support his two daughters."

Chica said her husband could be deported to Ecuador as early as next week.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Thursday the state has secured pro bono legal counsel for Villavicencio. Cuomo said he had talked to Chica and expressed "deep frustration with the federal government's assault on New York's immigrant families."

New York City Councilman Justin Brannan, a Democrat, is questioning the military's decision to call immigration officials.

"Pablo never had a problem entering the base before, he had a NYC ID and never had an issue before," Brannan said. "Why was Pablo singled out? What was different this time?"
"Is our city, state and nation more safe today because Pablo is off the streets?" he added

Awwww boo hoo. Criminal illegal alien who broke the law entering our country and committed another crime on top of that is crying about getting deported.

And why is Cuomo in such an uproar about? All these Dems care about are illegals.

Why no public outcry on the pizza restaurant that hires a undocumented immigrant delivery diver with no drivers license, insurance, or a criminal background check?

An immigration judge had ordered Villavicencio's deportation in 2010 after he overstayed his visa, ICE said in a statement. Since then, he's been considered an "ICE fugitive,"

This is basic Darwinism... severely stupid guy, in the country illegally, attempts to gain access to military base. People should be concerned about his children and the fact that they are in the care of someone who is in such a state of severely diminished mental capacity.

This is not true at all. If someone is in the country illegally and breaking our laws on a daily basis, they should be arrested and deported. In fact, I believe they should be arrested, sent to prison, released to their home country, and receive a bill for the prison and transportation costs. We should also make it so that if they are caught here illegally they can never apply to be come a US citizen or get a visa ever.

We need to make it so that people will want to come to the United States, but only if they can do it legally.

A good start is to go after the companies the hire undocumented workers, just inforce the laws we already have and our officers swore to uphold.

A judge halted the deportation.

Great idea.

Before I went to college I worked at Taco Bell. Border Patrol would come in once a month in a full uniform, and nearly half the staff would flee out the back door - right into the arms of other officers waiting with a truck to haul them away.

The other day they busted a landscape company who had over one hundred illegals working for them.

If a business is constantly violating laws about hiring people illegally, they should have their business license taken away from them.

Where is the logic in this? You want to punish countries for the actions of their citizens? Brilliant idea. Countries in South America are unable to take care of their citizens, so let's punish those countries, and make it even worse for their citizens which will only.... encourage their citizens to illegally enter the United States.

Yeah but people get separated from their families all the time. If you go to prison you're pretty much cut off from your family. Why should this be any different? Because he's an illegal he should get a pass?

Deport him. His family is free to go with him.

Yes it is true. Did you not see what the governor said?

Here, read it carefully -

New York (D) Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Thursday the state has secured pro bono legal counsel for Villavicencio. Cuomo said he had talked to Chica and expressed "deep frustration with the federal government's assault on New York's immigrant families."

i don't find it fair or accurate to compare him to a felon. America is not safer now with that guy not delivering pizzas.

and it also appears there's questions surrounding the legality of his arrest. good.

That's not true at all.

Ranking cities by the amount of millionaires they have... Only one South American city pops on the list, Mexico City, and it's #19.

1) Tokyo
2) New York
3) London
4) Paris
5) Frankfurt
6) Beijing
7) Osaka
8) Hong Kong
9) Shanghai
10) Singapore
11) Munich
13) Rome
14) Los Angeles
15) Toronto
16) Chicago
17) Sydney
18) Houston
19) Mexico City
20) Moscow

Out of ALL cities in South American, only one city has enough millionaires to crack the top twenty.

You have taken my words and you are trying to twist them into something I did not say.

I said...

In this case, I am perfectly fine with this man being arrested and deported. He entered the United States illegally, and most likely broke dozens of laws - everything from driving without a driver's license to driving without insurance, not paying taxes, etc etc etc... Even worse a non US citizen tried to enter a US military base. I don't care if he was "just doing his job" delivering pizza.

However, there is a proper way and an improper way to do this. Raiding a landscape business or a Taco Bell - that's fine. But we shouldn't be staking out schools and hospitals to find people here illegally. At the same time we cannot be arresting people for calling 9/11 - Even if they are here illegally, we still want them to report crimes.

For some reason people think Democrats are "soft" on illegal immigration. This is not true at all. Obama deported more people than any other president. The arrest and capture of people here illegally has dropped under Trump. Trump talks the talk, but doesn't walk the walk. Trump talks loud, pisses people off, and then fails to do his job.

At the very same time, it is not up to local law enforcement to be arresting such people. This is just common sense. I live in a town of fifty thousand people and at any given moment we have three or four officers on duty. Any time our police department has to arrest someone and transport them to the county lock up, it cuts our entire on call police force by 25% or more. The FBI doesn't come to my town and patrol at night, show up for fires, or set up speed traps.

rochard, you have no idea what you are talking about.

exclaiming this guy "more than likely broke dozens of laws" is a ridiculous thing to claim.

even the 3 you mention you have no idea about. It never occurred to you this guy probably delivers pies via subway and walking. It's Brooklyn. You have no idea if he even makes enough money to have to pay taxes. and plenty of non-US citizens enter military bases on a daily basis.

I mean really, the crap you have to make up to justify your view is ridiculous.

No.

You said " That's not true at all."

You are lying or you're ignorant. Just about every single sanctuary city is run by Democrats so why do you respond not true "at all"??

Ecuadorean Dad Has Deportation Suspended After His Arrest During Pizza Delivery

Interesting, a judge suspended his deportation today. Evidently he was waiting for his green card application to be processed.

Of course his application will be denied because he violated a judge's order to leave in 2010 and had a warrant out for his arrest.

So this will be a temporary stay if his inevitable deportation.

We'll see. Cuomo requested/ordered a federal investigation. There's much legitimate outrage over this.

Interesting, a judge suspended his deportation today. Evidently he was waiting for his green card application to be processed.

Of course his application will be denied because he violated a judge's order to leave in 2010 and had a warrant out for his arrest.

So this will be a temporary stay if his inevitable deportation.
i want to see if the feds will charge him. he's going to do some time for re entering the country. i want to know what social he was working under at the pizzeria. he is going to have a fun ride
