They state that as long as it is legal porn it is okay.

My concern is that if there are illegitimate complaints or traffic picks up that they will close you down deeming it a hassle.

Expensive how? For what use? I am using the $5/month VPS with 1TB bandwidth.
I am not hosting content, just building affiliates. Also not using wordpress, I am building bespoke with react.js.

It is expensive! for less money you can have linode.com or vultr.com with BETTER server parameters.

Your link is over a year old. Digital Ocean upgraded their $5 service tier to 1GB and SSD storage to 25GB.

the CEO from digital ocean was a porn hoster.

i hosted with his company 15 years ago when they where a small dutch hosting company with a handful of of employees.

but today their customers are Google and Amazon and other very big companies.

I'm considering moving some stuff there. I'm currently hosting with OVH and Google Cloud Platform. Recently been using Firebase but I'm working on migrating to Kubernetes so I'm not tied to any one particular platform. Their "Spaces" offering seems really nice but nothing on US-West yet and I'm anxiously awaiting their managed Kubernetes solution. Just wish they had a cheaper option for block storage (don't always need SSD).

That's a fairly superficial difference. Most tasks, with the exception of video encoding, are not going to be CPU bound. I'm more concerned with IOPS.

+1 for Digital Ocean, I use their VPNs to host my camsite.

Their documentation is superb. I did experiment with Google Cloud Engine, AWS and Heroku to save some time on configuring everything but since my site is currently making zero dollars it was not worth the cost.

I've used a lot of VPS' and dedicated servers, managed and unmanaged.

Digital Ocean is the last place I'd use. I have never had any good experiences with them except moving accounts there for a few days until my new server could be installed or configured.

I had so many downtimes with them with even with paying big bucks for a good setup.

I now used Linode and they are A+++++++++++++

Not as good as Mojohost, but, they'll do. Digital Ocean was good mining ethereum and monero a few months back.

IMHO, too expensive for large sites, SoYouStart is much cheaper

Ps. I made $$$$ with DigitalOcean affilate program back in 2014 advertising their VPS for cryptocurrency mining
