			 vpnlab.net ( use a VPN to visit

)THIS DOMAIN HAS BEEN SEIZED Since 17 January, 2022 International law enforcement, under the leadership of the Police Headquarters Hannover and the Verden Public Prosecutor‘s Office (Germany), has seized the domain vpnlab.net. This service provided a platform for the anonymous commission of high value cybercrime cases, and was involved in several major international cyberattacks. This seizure follows a long-running international investigation by authorities in Germany, The Netherlands, Canada, the Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Latvia, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and the United States. Law enforcement has now gained access to the vpnlab.net servers and seized the customer data stored within. The investigation regarding customer data of this network will continue.. This explains the recent outage of OVH cloud servers ...

It does, but it also shows how silly is police operation - if there is a offender in some datacenter, they will shutdown whole datacenter instead just problematic servers.

Well this blows the illusion that using a VPN will hide your tracks. LOL

Depending on the VPN provider, the seized user data may not amount to much. And if you are using a VPN purely for privacy reasons and not doing anything illegal on it, you've nothing to worry about. Many providers keep little to no logs on the servers for data recording so even if the servers were seized, the authorities will probably find little of help for their case.

Is there any way that makes sense from a law enforcement perspective, if it is a customer of the service and not the owners of the service? Serious question as I don't use VPN and don't know much about it.

My basic operating principle is what you said - do nothing illegal - but I also suspect that if the Feds really wanted some data they would find a way to get it. LOL

I'm curious if you have a source for it being OVH?

My OVH VPS was down on the 14th with all the others for about 9 hours. When it finally came back up it was running about 500% better. It would explain a lot if they had running this service on shared resources. Lol OVH. EDIT: I found this: https://www.lapresse.ca/actualites/j...rnationale.php |
