How much money did you lose yesterday because...

Ok. How much money did you lose yesterday because an honest paying customer was entering there information at your paysite (or affiliate site). And the credit card processor denied there credit card for no reason at all (ie they had enough credit to pay)?

How much did you lose because the credit card processor asked for a stupid CVV2 number and the customer didn't know how to give it. Even though there are crappy instructions there.

How much did you lose because they didn't want to give a porn site the CVV2 number because it's what they have to verify they have the card. And now the porn site has that on file.

How much money did you lose because the credit card company denied the purchase because there software brought it up as suspicious because that consumer never buys online, but today decided they wanted to buy porn?

So I'm asking how much did you lose?

Peace,
Pete Dogg

Erm...what sponsor is that? I'd dump them like a bad habit.

Ok. How much did you make today because your customer could rip out his wallet and give those 16 magic little numbers with out even thinking about it? How much did you NOT lose today, due to the fact that with todays Internet billing, we have shared fraud screening, and smart software that can see if a card is being used beyond the normal usage (such as is the case with stolen CC's)?

I'll agree the CVV2 should have never been used by the online community, in fact my credit card company told me to never give out that number, FOR ANY REASON!

Sorry Pete Dogg, just thought I'd put up the flip side of your pondering question No disrespect intended!

hardcorehosting, I was hoping for some other opinions

"smart software "
That smart software is junk. I was buying a domain from new.net and my credit card got rejected. I was so pissed at the credit card company. Their smart software is almost retarded. They just don't have good Artificial Intelligence.

Unriz3n, it's not one sponsor, it's all of them. All the sponsors that take credit cards.

But I seriously think there is a good percentage of lost sales because "good" credit cards are getting rejected.

Pete Dogg -

We only see around 11% declined with our sites. Granted we don't get to see why each of them were declined, but I would say that 11% is a pretty good number when you think about all those folks out there with maxed out CC's. That 11% also does not include people that came back with an additional card for payment, only those that were completely declined access. I can sure tell you that it is better than it used to be for us, back in 96,97,98 there were all kinds of problems even getting credit card payment options. Not to mention the charge backs and reverse payments So let's not forget how fortunate we really have it!

get over it. if you're advocating that fraud control should be soft instead of tough, you have a poor understanding of this business.

you want things to get better? Stop helping those webmasters who commit fraud.

hardcorehosting, thanks for the 11% figure. That's kinda what I was looking for.

12clicks, I don't think fraud control should be softer. I just don't think the smart software the CC companies have is that good. And I'm not an expert at credit card payment I won't pretend like I am

Pete, my point is, don't hate the processor, hate the guy that forces the processor to be overly vigilant. As with ANY defence, there are always errors. It's the need for defence that is screwing things up.

12clicks is right, and this applies to other aspects of this business, not just CC processors. Cheaters that cause anyone to be on the defense, are killing it for everyone that is honest.

Example, as a free host, we try to have the fastest servers, best customer support, and all around try to run a quality operation.

Now along comes a cheater that uploads Child Porn, or redirects a gallery after some tgp's list them, (or many other types of cheating) And our quality control staff find this and we delete their accounts. Now we get reports from people that they are getting 404 errors when clicking on links to these accounts. This makes us look bad, but the whole process was started because of the cheaters...

So as 12Clicks stated
"It's the need for defence that is screwing things up".

Good point 12clicks and Lightning.
The cheaters make the game worse.
