Is this correct? What's up with Kuwait??
According to that UK newpaper
( http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/news/4321512 ) it shows Kuwait to be one of the countries that is FOR Afghanastan. How can this be? Either there's a mistake in that map, or else the government of Kuwait has a fucking short memory. There are a few other countries that I'm surprised to see as being FOR Afghanastan, like Quatar, Oman, Yemen. What do you all think? <font face="Verdana">___________ CD ![]() - Grab the banner.... <img SRC="http://members.home.net/cdsmodels/banr_ucas.jpg" VSPACE=7 width=468 height=60> Link it to: http://paydirect.yahoo.com/PD/onePag...sMoney-drv.pd/ |

Well, Kuwait knows the US wont come in and kick their ass, but they are afraid Afghanistan will. Lets face it, any country that gets knocked out by Iraq in like an hour, has to be afraid.

It would appear that you haven't followed the news concerning Arab nations after the war.
Almost as soon as the Desert Storm was won, Kuwait was trying to get rid of all ground troops near any of it's cities. It's okay that we save their asses but to stay there, they feel, is like us occupying their country. |

So shoot me ![]() I think that if I was the leader of those countries I would have seen the might of the US-and-World-Coalistion during the gulf war, and I would be less afraid of anything that those other Arab nations could do. If they are too stupid to offer cooperation and ask for protection, then they too will get what they deserve. |

Ammo..first of all the British news service is usually a lot more accurate than American ones. However, that is the News Of the World..a tabloid.
BUT...I dunno I looked at that map and I am not sure that Kuwait is pink. The name is bigger than the country on the map and I swear I see green behind its name. |

Erock...look closely..there is a border between the two peices of green.
Secondly..here are some news stories I just researched. They are about things Kuwait has done since this started. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/010913/80/c3rus.html That one is about how Kuwait arrested anyone found celebrating the attacks, how they ran huge blood drives. It includes the following qoute "Kuwait often expresses its deep gratitude for the role the United States played in the 1991 Gulf War which ended Iraq's seven-month occupation of the small, Muslim conservative Gulf Arab state." http://uk.news.yahoo.com/010914/80/c423c.html That one is about how we are buying fuel from them for the upcomming war. But perhaps this article is the most important on clearing up this issue : http://uk.news.yahoo.com/010913/80/c3ukz.html That one includes the following paragraph: Kuwait, which was liberated by a U.S. led-coalition from Iraqi occupation in 1991, urged international support for a U.S. call to launch an international drive against terrorism and said that terrorism was "synonymous with dictatorship" So..it looks like they are greatful and on our side. All it took was a little look around the news. |

Thanks Sjane, I hope all that proves out to be true. I was thinking that if the rest of the world puts economic sanctions on all non-compliant countries, we will need to buy oil from the few remaining ones, so Kuwait's loyalty is even more valuable for that reason.
As for Iran/Iraq/Afghanistan etc, they are twisting the meaning of the words written in the Koran, and they are adding in language that isn't even in the book, to the effect of "driving out all U.S. and western influence out of our lands", well let's see how the fair when they don't have our wheat or our technology or our textiles or raw materials to build their societies upon (like they do now). I'm sure all of the good citizens of those countries will emmigrate over here, and those regiouns will be left with a bunch of starving half-wits that got what they wanted. |

Well, if you study your geography, Kuwait is clearly in the pink. Weather or not that particualr story id tru...I have no idea at this point. I'm not sayin' it's right, just that Kuwait, according to this article, is against the U.S. Look a bit closer!

First thing to know..I hate this newspaper. So, I am in no way defending them. They are the crappiest paper in the UK. They did something very very wrong (in my opinion) a few months ago. I won't go into it because if you don't live in the UK it won't matter. On this one, whoever made the map put the name is a really bad place.
I think this is a case of it being difficult to see and hence we are all seeing different things. However, I am not good at many things in this world but I do know geography. That comes from having been a travel agent for a number of years, a journalism major before that and if we go WAY back I was in AP geography. So, I thought I would show you what I mean. This is Kuwait on a different map. Notice the location of the borders. ![]() Now here is an even more super zoomed version of the News of the World (spit..I hate that 'news'paper) map. Note the arrows showing the borders and where the green is located. ![]() I can understand why it looks pink but it isn't. Someone just put the name of the country in a stupid place. Which doesn't suprise me with The News Of The World. |
