namedrop some colocation providers.

i'm going shopping, and i figure colocation providers namedropped here are big enough (network and resource -wise) to suit my needs.

also feel free to namedrop specific contacts (icq, email, etc.) at the places. it would be nice to be able to talk to a sales agent about options and custom quotes.

i'm not looking for a lot of bandwidth or rackspace. less than 12U of space and less than 15mbit of bandwidth to start. (supposedly I'm using 14mbit at 95th, but MRTG shows a weekly average of 7mbit. so take how many gigs of actual bandwidth being used out of that, if you want.

i don't understand how taking bandwidth readings, every 5 minutes and throwing out the top 5% winds up doubling the weekly average?

i would expect the majority of readings would need to be over what the weekly average is, to get 95% of the readings to double that.

i just think it's crap; i pay for 10mbit and i expected to get 3200 gigs a month, approximately. then he mentions 95th, but said something along the lines of "that's still 2800" if i recall.

but apparently it's not, or it has nothing to do with the amount of gigs, just the amount of spikes (which looking at my MRTG graph shows normal bandwidth patterns every day...)

either way, i'm out shopping. if everyone else offers 95th, so be it. if i can go cheaper with a per-gig solution, or just buying a 10mbit rate-limited plan that allows me to peak at 10mbit sustained the entire month for the same price, so be it.
