I agree with you, pJ.
Your highschool gang is good enough for some beer and sex, but it is at the University that you find people with different visions than yours, different backgrounds, different aspirations. Seeing those differences, thinking about them, refining your own thoughts, all this helps making a better rounded person.
Visiting GFY is much like that. I am sure that many people come here not to get more money, but instead to check out the clash of ideas, the different reasonings people use to defend their point of views.

BTW, I am an electronic engineer.

I went to the one and only Pairs Island MCRD in SC. Those of you who went to San Diego need not apply - Fucking Hollywood Marines......

I also have a AA degree in Computer Something or Another. The school I went to had a full time dress code and made their students show up every day. It was a blast.

I have my A.A. in Visual Arts, painting and drawing emphasis. I'm more than halfway finished with my studio art degree but I will probably get my BS in Information Systems before I complete the art requirements.

During interviews I've actually been asked "What good did you expect an art degree to do for you?"

Spanish Linguistics and Business Admin for me

I've only had to use my spanish once while working in the industry - and it was to speak to the bathroom plumber at Internext

I studied politcal science with emphasis in IPE (International Political Economy), with a minor in philosophy.

I wouldn't concur that it's a waste of time, as there is a wealth of knowlege to be found in university. But, of course, I didn't choose a degree path by which I could 'get a job', such as health care or engineering. That would be a waste of time and I'd be nothing more than one of the billions of ants in the world, scurrying about.. but instead i'm laughing at them.

But, yeah, school was good.. I learned a bit. I've learned more from travelling and experiences new places, though.

I got a Bach in Drawing from University of Florida... ;) Really I don't regret any of it -- art school totally changed me and the way I saw the world, the creative people I met and the experiences... If I hadn't gone to art school I don't think I would have had the mental mobility that allowed me to be an independent adult webmaster... i'd probably be a programming troll somewhere in a labyrinth of cubicles...

Art school was fun as hell -- the parties and gallery shows -- late nights painting and building and experimenting in the studio -- no books to buy -- no papers to write -- no essays -- no scantron shit... believe it or not it was a lot of work but I really could give a shit about my GPA... your work/portfolio is way more important.

Majored in Crime & Delinquency and minored in English at the University of Kansas. Now here I sit programming for porn sites. I was all geared up for a career in federal law enforcement and decided I could make more money and be happier being a programmer.

TheFLY, no papers to write??? Man, I am not quite finished with my art history foundation (3 down, 2 upper division courses to go) and I've had to buy books, write papers, give presentations and take tests (essay, oral and multiple guess ala scantron sheets).

The parties and gallery shows are great, I do admit. But the art world is a sheltered one, filled with fantasy and idealistic dellusions. It's worth it, though, if only for the experience. I can't wait to finish.
