Nikon D70s vs. D200

Anyone had a chance to try both of these cameras? Or own one or the other? Trying to decide if the D200 is worth the extra cash. Ill be shooting content with whichever one I get. I decided its time to upgrade my existing equipment. Recommendations, places to buy, best prices etc? Thanks in advance all!

Get a D70 and spend the difference in cost on a good lense or lighting.

Lens package and camera kit are 1200.00 for the D70 which I thought was pretty good. Just the body for the d200 is nearly 1700.00 So I could probably get a nice new lighting package and a few backdrops and still be under 2k with the d70 ya think?

1000 (after taxes and kit lens) for the D70 vs the 1700 for the D200.

I've used the D70 for the past 1+ year. And i'll be buying the D200 as soon as a few magazine freelance checks come in the mail.

Point being, I've out grown the D70 and I need more. The focusing on the D200 is better, the lower ISO is much more better and I also need the kick in megapixels, from 6 to 10...

500 bucks is good enough to buy a decent nikon lens, but not good enough to buy the top of the line glass.

You could buy a decent flash with the money you save, an SB-600 or 800...

Yep. Or if you have some decent lighting already or shoot primarily outside in natural light spend the extra $ on a nice wide-angle lens and some filters.

Ya Ive pretty much decided on the D70s my cousin has one, and she works in a profesh family photo studio and uses it, so I know it will do what I need. Damn 10.1 MP is a nice Epenis number to whip out though.

Start with the D70 and get your feet wet.

I can't wait to pick up a d200 myself but you can still shoot great content with the D70.

Wide angle for portrait shots? if he's shooting content, he shouldnt' be using a wide angle lens, as the distortion can be seen in the body... bends, curves where they shouldn't be.

Try sticking to prime lenses, or anything over 24mm for shoots.

Unless you really need a wide angle for cramped situations, nothing will beat a 50mm prime.

Oh yea, another thing. I've pretty much milked the D70 dry with the controls and everything, getting the D200 is a different story, when i checked it out the other day at the store the controls were different, so It looks like i'll end up learning a new camera.

But it's always good to start cheaper and work your way up, the d70 sounds like a better fit for you.
