I'm in the process of building right now... In my area you can spedn 20kmin more and get something brand new, more sq ft, more bedrooms etc then buying something 25 years old and more less crap. Made since for me to just build and get what I pretty much wanted for not much more.

I'm having one built as we speak... it's nice because you get to design the house, rooms and all that chit yourself, and everything will be brand spanking new... but I'm warning you, it will cost ya

Definably building one, pre-fabs are way cheaper now then what houses used to cost. You can have a awsome prefab delivered for about 80K

Build one. At least you're reassured that no violent murders happened in your house.

lol good point. In a couple years or so I gotta make this decision too, curious to see what others have to say about it.

If it is not a place where you plan to spend at least twenty years in and or die there. I would see very little reason to custom build. If anything I would go with a pre-fab if I wanted brand new, otherwise I would buy exsisting.

I did one custom build. Will never do that again. Way too many headaches and time involved in so many decisions. Contractors are a pain in the ass to put it mildly.

Easier to buy turnkey ready to go.

Dealing with Building and Safety and all the "assholes" that never show up when they are supposed to building and doing the work for your house, done it a few times and i will tell ya just not worth it. General contractors charge up the ass, your life now becomes theres.....lol

Buy a cool "fixer" and do it as you go.........you will thank me later.

personally i find houses built in the 60s and 70s to be more solid than houses built today. if you build you gotta make sure they don't cut corners or leave your half finished house in the rain to start rotting before you even move in. there are a lot of shady contractors out there.
