Sponsors deleting 'inactive' affiliate accounts = unprofessional

Quote:
Dear Affiliate
We note you have an active affiliate account that has not been used or made any sales in the past 8 weeks, we are currently performing a database clear out of dead accounts, over the next 30 days we will be deleting accounts that have made no sales in the previous 12 weeks.
Cost of keeping 'inactive' affiliate accounts = $0.00.

Who is that sponsor? What if I am ramping up an ad campaign and had no sales for 8 weeks because I was prepping. Then I launch and my links are all dead?

Please expose these buggers.

We at KM bucks don't clean out inactive affiliate accounts.

We would rather try to contact affiliates and help them promote our program.

I just think that is common sense!

Sponsors who do that don't realize how many webmasters took part in the build it and forget it types of campaigns years ago. Either that, or they do realize and they're crooks who want to steal trickle traffic.

Very true. It's a couple bytes of information in a database. There is no reason to delete 'inactive' affiliate accounts and it doesn't cost a sponsor anything to keep them, but to have somebody go through and delete them cost them money. A few cents for making a query, but still a few cents is more that $0.00.

I have had lots of accounts I haven't used in ages then they bring out new sites and I go back and try them again, I probably wouldn't bother if they had deleted me and I had to signup again.

sending an email like that seems like a way of threatening you to promote them. They should just send an email saying they noticed you were inactive and if theres anything they can do to help.

The program is just plain ignorant to send such an email or the program is trying to rip you off because you either have money in your account below the required minimum for payout or you have rebills. Either way, why would you want to continue doing business with them?

8 weeks does seem like a rather short period. but if they were honestly trying to scam you they wouldn't of sent out the email. some programs also have huge databases full of fake accounts because surfers sit and make logins all day to get access the promo content and gallery links. there is a cost involved in that.

It is my belief that they were attempting to use fear tactics to get you to promote them more to save your account from deletion. Seems to have failed.

Makes plenty of sense: The program takes over any rebills, and if it's a non-CCBill program will keep any accrued payout under the minimum.

Even if some webmasters respond by protesting it or by sending traffic, there's still many who won't...

Professional or not -- it's simply bad business.

It's akin to retail shops deleting legitimate CANN-SPAM addresses for not purchasing within X amount of time. The cost of the storage space it takes to keep either address (and subsequently the actual PERSON) is simply negligible.

Why is this such a bad thing? Keeping the open accounts, active means that reps have more time to spend with webmasters that are actively sending traffic. Secondly, "deleting" is more likely to be "changing to inactive status" rather than purging all the data on file - which I agree would be odd.

It's not a totally stupid idea....

there are a million reasons why a program might need/want to do this. too many paranoid affiliates around here worrying about being scammed.

not only the ones that do that, but how about the ones that close your account because there are too many chargebacks? That happened to me with Gigacash. How the heck am I able to control the amount of chargebacks, when I'm sending them regular run of the mill TGP traffic?

It says absolutely nothing. They have a minimal webmaster area and the Terms and Conditions link is focused on the surfer.
