Vegans vs. meat eaters -- interesting debate

Pro-meat: http://www.jewcy.com/dialogue/2007-0...ing_is_killing
Vegan: http://www.jewcy.com/dialogue/2007-05-14/ethical_vegan

Great discussion.

If god wanted me to eat vegetables, he would have made them out of meat.

I don't eat meat often but not for ethical or moral reasons , only because I want to live longer. Eating too much red meat can lead to cancer.

I watched a show on the Science Channel and they said that if you want to live to a hundred you should consume as little meat as possible, eat more fish and veggies, healthy nutrients.

I will eat burgers like In N Out once in awhile or a steak once in awhile, I don't eat meat everyday though. I want to minimize my risks of cancer and I don't want meat clogging up my intestines...

I'm not a vegitarian, I love to eat meat, I just try to eat as little as possible because I'm afraid of dying and disease. I try to eat lots of fish and shrimp. Beef as a last resort...

Vegetarians are just down right disrespectful.

Our ancestors spend millions of years getting to the top of the food chain for us to then become veggies?!?!

And if we are not supposed to eat animals, then why are they made out of juicy, tasty meat?

I am a proud Vegan. I have been for 17 years.

I don't preach to anyone though, it's all just personal choice.

their diet, veganism, had nothing to do with the death of their child. that is just how their lawyer tried to spin it. like they were innocent because the child just died because of their ethics. bullshit. they straight up starved that kid.

that child was at the breastfeeding age. vegans are no different from any other mothers. they breast feed. these people should have as well.

FYI Every box of soy milk has a clear warning that says it is not a substitute for infant formula ;)

agreed that soy milk is not for infants. infants should have milk from their mothers.

some babies do not take regular baby formula well and non-vegan mothers have to opt to use soy based formula for their babies and the babies are still healthy and gain weight. veganism is not to blame for the death of that child. it is negligence plain and simple and they deserved the sentence that they received.

Every vegan I've ever spoken to says they feel better and have more energy after the switch... and they always seem to have more energy. They look healthier, they tend to be thinner, and they tend to be happier and more energetic. I'm trying myself, but it's not easy. I hate most vegetables... that's a problem if you'd like to be a vegan.

I have found that I love soy milk, though.

I eat whatever I feel like eating at the time. Today it happened to be teriyaki stirfry for breakfast, an apple and slice of cheesecake for lunch, and a cheeseburger for dinner.

I made the stirfry with organic marinade, and soy sauce. That was my weird hippie food item for the day.

Well cows produced tons of methane which is 20X more effective as a greenhouse gas as CO2. If no one ate beef or drank cows milk then the # of cows that would occur naturally in nature would be 1/20 or less of what it is now. We should be thankful Indians don't eat beef.

humans are omnivores.. we are supposed to eat some meat.. red meats just take longer to digest, but whos eating them every meal anyways? not too many people consume red meat daily. what pisses me off most about vegans and vegetarians who cry about meat being cruel, is your fucking carrot not alive when you pull it out of the dirt???? everything dies, its part of life.

I love meat and as a guy who lifts weights zealously, I eat a lot of it, mostly lean meats like chicken and fish and tuna, as well as some 96% fat free turkey and beef BUT I probably also eat as many varieties of vegetables and fruits on a daily basis as any vegetarian. I believe that it's important to have a good balanced diet with all those elements as well as some whole grains.

We have meat eating teeth, we have veggie eating teeth.... we are a part of the animal kingdom with instincts, needs and desires.

Why fight it?

What weak arguments. I (almost exclusively) eat vegetarian mostly because I don't really like meat (I was just brought up that way), but also because

- I find the bio-industry absolutely unnecessarily absurdly imhumane (I could eat freerange meat though).

- I'm concerned with my health

- Eating vegetarian theoretically means using up vastly fewer resources in terms of land and energy used than one would eating meat

Niiiice! What he said ...

I've been a vegetarian for over 20 years and am healthy and happy. Plus I know that I'm "down with the critters". What you gonna do if your creator is a Holstein? But seriously, smaller footprint on the planet, more humane considerations, healthier lifestyle, better tasting cum (so I've heard) It was and easy choice for me.

Over the past eight years I've had four vegans or vegetarians working for us. They were the thinest people I knew but also all of them had the most heath issues of any of our employees...not like cold/flu every day but overall weird stuff.

now don't all you skinny hippies strain yourselves to yell at me it's just a personal observation...and I do eat a completely unheathly amount of red meat.

I have trouble eating meat so I eat more veggies + fruit than I do meat but god damn is meat ever tasty. Ever eat a steak while sitting next to a vegan? They pretend to be disgusted... yet you can see a look in their eyes. A look that says "please sir, may I have a bite?". And if you keep looking you may just see them salivate as you gently slice through that fine slab of meat and gently lift the piece of meat to your mouth then engulf it.

Seriously though, what the fuck is up with vegans looking disgusted by people eating meat? I don’t look at them like that when they order a salad, what the fuck is their problem? YOU DON’T LIKE MEAT, WE GET IT, STOP MAKING A BIG DEAL OUT OF IT YOU MOTHER FUCKER.

I was vegetarian for 14 yrs but now I'm pescatarian(just fish), I just needed to get my omega 3's and 6's...but I'll say that it's crazy to say if god made us for one or the other, there's no strong arguement for either side.

Meat is bad for you yet we have teeth that are useful for eating meat.... pointless to argue.

I think it's ok to eat meat but in moderation,Americans eat too much meat. STudies have shown that if you eat small amounts of meat and consume more nutrient stuff like veggies and fruit you tend to live longer..

It's ok to eat small amounts of eat, but not like super huge portions of steak all the time. There's an insland in Japan where people are more likely to live over 100. They did a study on their diets and found out those people consume under 100mg of meat daily while most americans consume over 300 mg of meat.

It's fine to eat in moderation. Excessively eating meat and processed foods I think can really lead to disease and death.
