My Grandma Passed Away This Weekend

After a long battle with sickness my step fathers mother, my grandmother Isabel passed away.. She had a terribly long battle with old age, she kept getting sick, and she kept getting a little better, but then progressively getting sicker and sicker. She died in her sleep, at a nursing home, not in her own house with her husband or family. I only find peace knowing that it was in her sleep and that she is no longer suffering.

I have had to deal with a bit of anger and sadness this weekend, because she could have gotten better but she chose to leave her health only in gods hands. She did not believe that she should take the pills and listen to the doctor, because this was the devils work and the drugs were not gods way.

I feel a great sadness over this and even more of a sadness for my step father (who I consider my real father)

In addition to a hard weekend dealing with this, I went to the veterans cemetery for Memorial Day which I do every year to honor my grandfather and grandmother who were in service during WWII and Korea, It's hard to deal with sometimes when you think about the loss that we go through and the lives that people live changing the world and how much they change us when they spend time with us.

I loved my grandparents, I've now lost 3 our of 6, I am sure that the rest will follow soon.. I can only hope that they feel peace when they go and know that they've had a positive influence in my life.

I won't be able to make it to Iowa to see her buried, which makes me angry, but I have to keep up with my life, and make sure that things go forward rather than getting stuck..

Things have also been a bit difficult with my girl, but she's worth it, her issues lately are getting better and I see her making positive steps and that makes me very proud that she is helping her self and she is allowing me to help her use the tools available to her.

Ok.. alot going on this weekend, I just needed to have some emotional vomit right now.. Because as some of you who know me very personally know I care a great deal about family, friends, and love.. Thanks for the concern!

My condolences man...

Lost my Opa just a few months back, and was probably one of the hardest things I've ever had to deal with.

You ever need someone to chat with, I'm around... keep your head up, brighter days always ahead.

I'm so sorry to hear that man. My grandfather had a heart attack a week and a half ago. He was a fixture, I can't imagine what it would be like without him there even tho i don't talk to him much.

First, my condolences on your loss.

My Stepfather, whom (like you) I consider my Dad, is getting along in years too - and he is also in a nursing home. Personally, I think it is a good place for him considering his health. He is surrounded by excellent caregivers, and he has made many friends there.

As for your Grandma, it sounds like she lived a good long life (despite her ups and downs at the end), and most importantly, she went out on her own terms.

I'm not sure how I will feel when I get to be that age, but I would hope that my loved ones will honor whatever my requests may be, so that I may either fight to be alive via medicine, or die with dignity, as it sounds like your Grandma did.

Remember all of the good moments you had together, and focus your love upon your surviving loved ones, even as you mourn the loss of your Grandma.

Best wishes as you find your way through these difficult times...

ADG

Thanks ADG, I do agree that it was good that it was on HER terms.. The part about her being alone and me being upset over that, was that she was being moved from the hospital to a nursing home, and in the early morning when no one was around she passed shortly after arriving there.. I wish she was still at home like a week ago.

Anyways, Thanks you for the words! Much Appreciated!

If my grandmother does not die shortly I am going to kill her myself...

J/K.

My grandmother is my favorite relative, she was the one that helped through everything when I was kid. Old age is really taking its toll on her though but she had a good life and she is ready when ever the time comes.

Sorry to hear the loss Media.

Sorry for your loss Media. I just buried my favorite G'ma 10 days ago myself. Drove 14 hours, buried her, then drove 14 hours back. I must admit, I could not even view her. I chose to keep her memory like in her pictures. She had hung on the last few years moving in and out of dementia. Didn't know where or who she was sometimes. She had just been moved into a nursing home (which she did NOT want to do), but needed the 24/7 watch. She was "crazy in a good way" all of her life and taught me "the finger" when it came to living my life. God bless her for that. God bless all G'mas, may they rest in peace.

My sincere condolences on your loss media.

I really do believe that you lose a part of yourself whenever a loved one dies. I've never been the same since my father passed away 7 years ago.

But always remember, she is never truly gone, as you hold on to your love and memories of her; she will be with you always inside your heart and mind.

Sorry to hear that man.

I personally wait for the call from family about my own mom. She is almost 78, and still going. She is not sick, but that is the type of person that one day, for no real known reason, just does not wake up. So every night I wait. Some day it will happen, and then I have to decide if I go to the funeral.

Dont really think that I will.

I feel for you man.. Losing relative must be terrible. I lost my granp-parent long ago and I was too young to really realize. I have the chance of having my both parent still leaving.

My dad is at 82 now and I have to accept the idea that he can be gone in any of these days... I realy don,t know how I'll deal with that...

Our Sincere Condolances

My condolences. I know how you feel.

My grandmothers neighbours called me saturday that she still had all the curtains closed at 11 AM which was not normal/ Went there, all doors closed and no response. Climed on the roof and entered here house on the 2nd story and found her on the couch; dead.
Scared the hell out of me and I did not expect that (I thought maybe she fell and broke here hip like 5 years ago).
She wasn't sick or anything. Her heart just stopped in her sleep.
We are cremating her thursday morning. She died at age 85.

I will miss her.....I would have liked to keep her for some more years since she was so loving and still vivid and making her own food in her own house.

So if I don't answer my email & icq for the next 2 days, you know why. Got a lot of things to take care of for her and my parents who are to sad to sort stuff out at the moment.

Sucks to lose the family elders

All of my grandparents and parents have died. Give your parents a call everyday, or week, or more than you do already. Just a good thing to do while you can.

Sorry to hear,

I am dealing with it too, all the family people you loved are passing away and there is a big vacuum left. I kind of have to admit I have a hard time coping with it.

Let's wish them the best and be grateful for every moment we could spend with them.
