External hard drive crash help

Hi All,

I have an external hard drive (lacie 500GB) for personal use, so no backups for the content since it is nothing really important. I dropped it and now it makes funny noices and windows wont regognize it. Is there an easy way to check if it is the harddrive or the electronics in the chassi that I broke?

*hugs and kisses*

You could take the drive out and put it inside the PC case to see.

Haha, that brings back memories. I had a laptop a few years back that got overheated all the time, used to give it the fridge treatment once in a while:-)

I bought a new pair of (ridiculously expensive) headphones and I used to keep them on my desk next to my external drive...

Don't do that...

The magnets in my phones corrupted the file structure of my drive.

Some things in life you only need to learn once :-)

It is typical though, anything I have related to work stuff is backed up a gazzilion times, but the private stuff for some reason is not as important until it is to late.

I did not even know headphones had magnets, keep mine on the desk all the time. That habit is now gone....
