I went on a 2 week scuba vacation there in 1996 when it was still mostly undeveloped jungle. Jesus I'm getting old.

Great great great diving. Some of the best I've ever done. Plus amazing seafood and beer and tiny little resorts in the middle of nowhere that you have to take a puddle jumper plane to get to.

The one thing I didn't see that I was bummed about - no Whale Sharks. They are reputed to come in close to land there in great numbers every year, but I didn't see any.

I saw one in the water off the Galapagos Islands, I was swimming around in a collapsed volcano, I think its called the Devils Crown and a whale shark swam by just a few feet below. Scared the shit out of me until I realized what it was. Saw huge numbers of white tip sharks swimming around in huge schools. Great place to visit if you have a liking for animals !

this doesn't talk about girls or beer, but I know a lot of the population speaks broken English, and the Belizean Dollar is backed by the USA, so they are friendly
