The main problem is ADWARE.

This problem affects ALL affiliates, because it is on top of all problems.

As an example, I will give you a link to a document that has been online in a hidden spot, available only for a very short time for those concerned. The link below is probably temporary, mirrored at the internet archive.

Lots of affilates are making less or no money at all because of the cookie stuffing and redirecting practices of installed adware on their surfer's computers.

The example of CJ is concerning mainstream traffic, but let me assure you this story is only a tiny piece of what is really going on at this very monent.

Because of this, affiliates lose income, and trust in their programs, and keep switching to find a conversionrate that's not there anymore. The programs lose their valued affilates and get a freakin' piece of hidden software as a surrogate, and get their traffic by the mercy of a few white collar thiefs who decide the destiny for all programs.

Not everyone has been listening, but webmasters and affiliates have been bitching about it on webmaster radio, among other forums, since Zango, and cookie removing software, and discussions on cookie stuffing.

But..... it's nice to see someone finally doing something about it!

So they used known adware companies, that require a valid download, but are still adware.. which in the end steal from the same affiliates that promote the system, which is who is doing the suing.

And interesting case to keep an eye on.

I don't think this is an industry ratio killer, not saying it doesn't cause some issues now and then, but overall it isn't killing from us. Programs aren't stupid, if you take away from others, the others will leave, nobody is keeping Webmasters that do this. Unless the programs do it directly, then its straight theft/shaving. It's like a Webmaster stealing from his own sources of traffic, trades.. it's only a matter of time before they get caught or go bust.

Choose your Programs wisely and do a little research.

Essentially, yes.

Try to imagine 3 or 4 installed adware apps running in the background at once.

They are even competing with each other for the front seat.

So... pretty fucked up.

Solutions ? Yes, I thought about solutions.

Encrypted URLS over HTTPS, no IP4 but only dynamic IP6 and DNSsec instead of DNS.

There's no other way around than to abandon plain text protocols.
