Clearly the solution is more guns!!!!
Boy, 4, shoots babysitter for stepping on his foot
JACKSON, Ohio ? Police say a 4-year-old boy in southern Ohio shot his babysitter because the sitter accidentally stepped on his foot. Police said 18-year-old Nathan Beavers and several other teenagers were babysitting several young children in a mobile home in Jackson on Sunday when the shooting occurred. Witnesses told police the 4-year-old retrieved the shotgun from a bedroom closet and shot Beavers. Police said the child was angry because Beavers accidentally stepped on his foot. Beavers was hospitalized with minor pellet wounds to his arm and side. Police say another teen was also injured with shotgun pellets. Jackson County Sheriff John Shashteen said authorities are investigating the shooting. The child has not been charged. news link

Why try to even make this into an anti gun argument?
Obviously it was just non responsible gun owners and if anything an argument for more responsible ownership and the use of trigger locks - especially if you have kids.

Yea, nobody talks about the people who were all killed when guys pushed their way into their house, or some poor schmuck who has his kid stolen at knife point. Nobody talks about the fact that gun crimes are much much lower in states that do not have licensing restrictions...But some complete asshole leaves a gun laying around and all guns are bad.
If the kid set the house on fire should we outlaw fire? |

No but they have found a way to make lighters ridiculously difficult to light especially with damp fingers.

Kids in a trailer park in Southern Ohio? The only tragedy here is that the kid didn't get a clean shot and then turn the rifle on himself...

You said all disposable lighters in you're statement, i know what bic is, had no idea the brand now has a safety feature in all it's lighters if i need a lighter i dont give a shit what brand it is as long as it works, and like i said earlier i have not seen a safety disposable lighter in a long time. for the record: I think all lighters should have safety on them. |

What's the law in Ohio for something like this? Isn't the gun owner responsible for the safety of his firearm?

Bic has a metal spring tab on top of the roller that makes it harder to press down to turn the roller The cheaper ones the roller is spring loaded so you have to press down on it You just never realized that they were safety's, because that's why they designed them like that. Like I said, you have seen them, just you really didn't know what it was. No big deal, just stating facts. BTW: It's a federal law, so yes they ALL HAVE THEM |

The problem is an irresponsible gun owner not the children, the mobile home or the city of Jackson.

The small penis gun theory is old, played out and not accurate.
Guns save lives. Guns put food on the table. Guns protect women from thugs. Guns are fine and guns are good. |

Gun control laws would not have prevented this accident so it isn't even worth talking about. Even in countries with gun-control and in proposed American gun-control laws, shotguns are legal and fine to have. The problem in this incident was the weapon was not properly stored... no law would have prevented that. That is just stupidity.

Hell, even here in The Netherlands, people can legally own guns. But they'll have to spend a year getting the license (which includes joining a shooting club for courses and such), and if there's any indication whatsoever that they might not be responsible weapon owners, they still won't get a license.

dam man you are that slow? on the net billing lighter (bic) the metal spring tab that wraps around the center of the thumbwheel that is a safety before that they had a plastic piece that had to be released in order to depress the valve the metal tab is the new version a couple years old the metal spring requires more pressure to spin the wheel the other lighter in your pics the thumbwheel is spring loaded and has to be pressed down a ways in order to make contact with the flint here is a nice video to help you along in this great challenge |

that not only keeps them out of little kids hands but also out of your hands in case you need it quickly i'm not saying leave them laying around on the coffee table or anything but keeping every gun you own locked up and unloaded is stupid unless of course the next home invasion they call ahead and let you know they are coming that's a great idea they should just make 2257 laws for criminals, all robbers must first keep a record of every house they break in to. that will stop all robberies and then no one would need any firearms to protect themselves :-} |

I highly doubt all Canadians meet those minimum requirements. There is no way to enforce such a law. That is why gun control laws would not have done anything to prevent this incident. The parents should have had the weapon out of the child's reach, period. This is an "idiot incident", we don't need another 10 laws trying to prevent something like this happening again when common sense can't even prevent it. Stupid people... that's all it was.

There's nothing stopping you from keeping your shotgun under your bed with your ammo in your nightstand right beside you. Just keep the key in the bedroom with you where a kid can't get at it. If you don't have time to grab a key in your bedroom chances are your going to get killed before you even know what's going on anyway. I keep a pistol grip Mossberg beside my bed (with trigger lock on) and I have a nice bayonet on the end of it in case I need to get pokey. |

And yes, if police are called to your house for an incident involving a firearm then they are going to inspect your storage methods. If you are not following the rules then you get charged, possibly losing your firearms. Seeing people charged with stuff like that acts as a deterrent for most people, even though it should be common sense already. But I agree, they were stupid and stupid people probably aren't going to care anyway. |

Ya, it's hard for a kid to blow his head off or kill someone else accidentally with a bayonet. If I had small kids in the house then I wouldn't have it laying around either. It's just a knife. Do you have steak knives in your kitchen?
