programmers - php4 or 5 or both???

Do you code your scripts for both php4 & 5 or just only 4?

I'm getting the shits having to code everything twice and am contemplating going 5 only.

Would like to hear thoughts on doing this?

PHP's support for version 4 has been discontinued since 31st of December 2007... Why would you support it still? But then again, I could be wrong :P

It's not so tough to do both at the same time (meaning make the software compatible with both) depending on what you're doing. What issues are you having and with what?

No big issue - parsing xml - php5 is so much better equipped to parse xml.

Yep, that's true, sadly I guess it all depends on who you're writing the code for. If you develop scripts targeted to many webmasters to use it, then yes, you should still support PHP4. I know I haven't written a line of code in PHP4 for years now, but I do develop strictly for clients that also host with us, and that means PHP5 is installed on the server

There's absolutely no reason that I can think of to continue using 4.
Backwards compatibility has been solid for years now.

The main advantage of PHP5 and 6 is the growing maturity of its OO + exception + interface frameworks.
