Verotel robbing people - stay away
Why are they choosing to do this to seemingly random people at seemingly random times?

For those confused on how fucking retarded of a mistake it is to go with Verotel, basically - they've APPARENTLY had a huge financial error in place for over 3 FUCKING years, and they're now wanting all of this money back for their own mistake.
I can only pray that doing this to so many clients will destroy their company more so than it would to just cut these losses. |

Same as the bank gives you too much money at the ATM. They are going to eventually take it back. Or you were paid with a PayPal account that was hacked or stolen, and they did not authorize the transaction. PayPal will hit you with a chargeback. Regardless if you sold the site, or domain and completed transfer. Yes, it sucks ass. But that is the reality of the issue in the example just provided. |

Jakez... you sound trollish and stupid... you talk about the debit card thing? Give it a fucking rest.. I lost like 1 or 2 % of my earnings with this... Problems happened, they got screwed, we got screwed.. but lets put things in perspective for a second.. Its not the end of the fucking world... Verotel is still there while many other processors crashed and burned...

For those of us running Verotel based affiliate programs this is a pretty rough situation, it's going to be difficult to attract new affiliates after this. I wish Verotel can handle this a bit more gently and get something out in public to act as an incentive for everyone to use their biz. |

I can understand them wanting the money back, but what if it has been spent? If this problem really has been going on for 3 years that money could be long gone.

That does sound like a fair solution. Otherwise it would suck to have then just send you a bill for the full amount.

While this is certainly a bad situation, I did notice that they are calling webmasters
on the phone to discuss options, then sending an email saying they would like to talk about what kind of resolution would work best, then saying they "propose" to deduct the amount over the next 25 pay periods. That is a lot better than how some other companies have handled things. Other companies have simply seized people's entire checks and done it without any real communication first. What we don't know is whether or not Verotel is in a financial position to be able to cover some, most, or all of the cost. If they could cover a substantial amount of the cost without going out of business I'd want them to do that. I would not, however, expect or want them to go out of business over this this.

Agreed. I don't blame anyone for dropping them after this, but I think they are handling it reasonably and there is nothing to say that you won't have problems with your next processor too.

This is pretty hilarious. They make a mistake over the course of years and pay people money that doesn't really exist before they figure out they fucked up and want their money back. Then they don't even seem to show up on here to clarify anything, yet they still have people defending them.
Isn't their job to handle money and your job to provide the product? If so, why would you forgive them for being unable to handle money properly? If they managed to fuck up for years without noticing they're giving away money that never came in, how do you expect them to handle things better in the future? Anyone who is okay with how they've handled this (trying to force webmasters to pay them back for money they gave out because they're idiots) may as well start tossing money in their paper shredders. Should anyone have to pay them back for their mistake? No. Should they go out of business because of this? Yes. This is like car companies getting bailouts because they failed to make good cars. Fuck that. If you suck at what you do, you should be put out of business. That's how capitalism works. You trusted a company to handle transactions properly and this was their sole job in your business model. They failed to do so.

The people at Verotel are great. Everyone here have probably met Mike, Darryl and others at various trade shows and know they are great people. They have a good service and take great care that it is always done right, that payments are always on time, etc.
The problem you are describing should fall into the laps of both yourself AND Verotel. It would make alot more sense to work with them to solve the problem that is good for both sides. Bashing them or dropping them does not help anyone. I am pretty sure that somewhere in their terms of service they have something along the lines of "we are not responsible for chargebacks, errors and omissions, payouts, etc etc". While it may not seem fair to you if a "correction" means a reduced payout, seized check, etc, it is still a part of the risk of doing business with any processor. In fact, it may not even be a risk at all because it could be argued that you have already benefited from that money which may not be yours. Yes it can be bad if it goes back 3 years. It should not make a difference if you were shipping hard goods or not because your costs are your costs, regardless of whather or not they are hard goods or not. In any business (especially these days) you need to be prepared for bad days. If you can't afford to weather this storm, then it would be a good thing to learn how NOW and prepare for future problems, and to let Verotel know this so that they may be able to work out some other kind of arrangement with you. Bashing them and dropping will not help anyone to move forward. Best of luck to you!
