They're both short-sighted idiots and how anyone can stand to watch the Miss Retarded USA pageant is beyond me.

I don't think that being gay should have been held against him as a judge. Think of how many guy men are involved in women's fashion including hair and makeup. I do think he is annoying and hell and that should have been held against him being a judge.

he sure used her stance on gay marriage to weed her out though, didnt he?

If you dont think Parez Hilton asked this "gay marriage" questions for anything other than to start controversy, you must not know him. he used it against her as a contestant, why not him as a judge?

He brought his gayness into the mix by bringing up questions like this that will cause people to boo at people for their personal opinions, he KNEW exactly what he was doing.

No straight man wouldve asked that.

I have no fucking clue, I don't know how one would qualify to be a judge but I don't think he should have been one. He's an attention whore to the max.

The answer: Not a good answer - not so much what she said but that it was a jumbled mess. Yes, a Miss USA winner should represent the whole country, and she should have tried to answer in a way that would be inclusive of all sides (which 90% of the time is merely going to be a non-answer). She didn't and it rightfully cost her the crown. But the way she gave her answer was close to the infamous Miss Teen North Carolina if I got that correctly.

The question: Not a good question. Judges should not come to these competitions with agendas, and I don't think it was accident that he asked Miss California this question, i.e. contestant from a state that most recently re-banned gay marriage. He won't SAY this but you know he was hoping for a gung-ho "YES, Perez - EVERY state should vote on this issue, including our state of California because Prop 8 was a SHAM I tell you!" He didn't get it, so cue...

Perez's reaction: The worst part of this debacle and proof he should have never been a judge. First he calls her a bitch, then apologizes only to go on TV and take back his apology and say he actually wanted to call her the C-word originally but held back. If that isn't a classless piece of shit, I don't know what is. He can dislike her response but to start namecalling is childish and more tactless than her answer ever was.

I disagree with pretty much all of that. I just watched her answer again for the 3rd time and I don't see where she didn't answer "rightfully" at all. In fact her answer was clearer and more concise than most of those given in such contests, most of them stumble and stutter and babble themselves into looking foolish. She didn't. Her answer was, barring a few slight stumbles, tactful enough (having included that she thinks it's great that Americans get to choose, thus tacitly acknowledging that she thinks it's right that each state gets to make a free choice about the issue), and she closed by giving her personal opinion on the issue, again not in a disrespectful way at all, merely clear and to the point. She was raised traditional and her answer was in line with that and true to her own family values, and frankly they're not wrong, just different than his. "She should represent the country"... well, inane point aside, believe it or not a lot of people feel the same way she does, so her answer was indicative of representing at least some people.

If that answer cost her the crown then it's because he didn't like the answer she gave and got pissy about it, and abused his power as a judge to enforce his agenda. "Agree with me or suffer my wrath" isn't the position any judge of such a contest should adopt.

Agreed in part. I don't see it as being such a bad question, but his reaction is the thing that's at fault here, definitely.

Again, agreed in full. In my view the guy is overreacting like the agenda-having "agree with me or die" whiney bitch that he is.

"Well I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one or the other."

If she was referring to Americans being able to vote on whether to allow gay marriage in their state, then she was incorrect because most states have not had that vote. Anyhow, it gets worse:

"We live in a land that you can choose same sex marriage or opposite marriage."

Where do we begin?

1. The choice of the people in 46 states at the moment is "opposite marriage" (or straight marriage as the rest of the world might call it) or "opposite marriage" - there's no choice.

2. Even as a personal choice, it's not a choice. I'm not choosing to be straight.

3. If she was referring to people being able to vote for the issue in their state, again most people have not had this choice AND the choice is not one OR the other but either allowing straight marriage only or allowing BOTH.

4. She's repeating what she said in the 1st sentence except spelling out that "one or the other" was not "allowing gay marriage or not allowing gay marriage" but instead "same sex marriage or opposite marriage", which again added more incorrectness to her statement if she was talking about people's choice to vote on the issue.

"You know what? In my country and inw, in, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman, no offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised and that's how...I think it should be between a man and a woman."

1. Yes I realize they have verbal gaffes from time to time but that doesn't make this any prettier to listen to! Seriously...

2. After saying it's great Americans can choose, she's saying "in my country" (assuming she meant the US and not California , and glad to know it's her country and not "our country") people shouldn't have the choice of gay marriage. If that's NOT what she was saying and she was merely giving her opinion on marriage, then that had nothing to do with the question unless she added that because she believes that, she believes the other states should not follow suit. Again, vague statement with respect to the question.

3. "that's how I was raised"...so if her parents raised her as a thief, racist, murderer, etc., that's her excuse for doing/being whoever she is. The only reason to ever say that is to hide behind it. "That's what I believe, but that's only because my parents beat it into my head when I was little - blame them." Plus it's a little uppity to say that when answering a question about the rights of a significant portion of the country. In other words, in the context of answering the question, she's basically saying "this is what my parents taught me, so regardless of what your parents taught you, you should live by my parents' rules".

Again, I blame some of this on the question because the question was VERY leading. I actually misremembered the question myself when I first posted my criticism on it - I thought he asked if the other states should vote on it but he was asking if the other states should "follow suit" meaning also pass laws allowing gay marriage. "4 states have allowed gay marriage, should the others follow suit?" I.e. those 4 states are "leading the way" and of course you want to come across as a leader in this competition, so he was basically trying to lead her into a "yes" answer with the phrasing of that question besides the fact that he's a gay man asking that question. I honestly wouldn't know the best way to present that question but he did not ask that question impartially and objectively as is clear by his personal bashing of her after the answer. She didn't answer it very well but I would blame a bunch of that on the bad question, which is why despite all the above, I come down harder on the question and Perez's reaction to her answer than her answer itself.
