Webmaster Q & A... Myths and realitys of accepting on-line checks.

It always amazes me how many paysite owners don't offer online ACH (online-checks) as a payment option. There are millions of Americans who either don't have credit cards, or will not use them on the internet. You can tap into this entirely new revenue stream just by offering ACH as a payment option. It is safe to assume that you could add up to 15% in additional revenues, on existing traffic!

Now tell me, why are you leaving money on the table?!

Let's get some Q & A going on here... I'm sure many of you have concerns and reservations about online checks... Let's hear them!

You don't offer a pay-by-check option out of fear of losing a little bandwidth and some content?! LOL!

If you don't mind me asking, how many signups a day do you do?

You can not use any ABA & Account number and/or randomly use someones name & address (without having to verify very pertinent, personal info) and have the transaction processed through our system. In fact, I'd encourage you to try and beat our join pages!

It seriously amazes me how many webmasters are deathly afraid of a surfer getting a "free ride" and don't take check signups because of it. Even if the return rate is 20%, the other 80% is additional money you wouldn't have had in the first place. There's no possible way the 20% of checks that didn't clear used up enough bandwidth to eat your profit off the other 80%. None of the big programs have stopped taking checks. Maybe you should think about why that's the case.

I tried accepting checks with one of my first webcam chat sites and it was nothing but a big fucking headache. Hopefully things have improved as far as fraud and collecting payments.

LiveDose,
Thank you for the post. I'm actually very glad you brought this up!

For WebCam and other live performance sites (who payout the performer regardless if the check clears or not) checks have never a viable option. For this reason alone, WTS developed an entire turn-key solution for mitigating the risks associated with Check processing. For the first time ever, live-interactive sites have the ability to offer U.S. checks as a payment option, without the risk of high returns.

There are certain procedures and processes that we must perform in order to ensure the Checks you are accepting actually clear at an acceptable percentage rate. A check solution with a high return rate will not work for your business model. Not only do you have to effectively score a consumer and his banking information (in order to allow an impulse purchase), but you have to monitor that transaction through the settlement process, which will then allow you to extend additional purchasing power to that consumer (if he qualifies). It is actually quite complicated and not as simple as just putting up a "Pay by Check" link.

WTS's WebCam product does it all... Identifies and services the consumer, monitors their account, and intelligently manages their transaction activity. Webcam and V.O.D. merchants can expect to add an additional 10% in new revenues to their sites, on existing traffic, just by adding this payment option.

Please contact me directly if you would like to discuss our WebCam-ACH product in further detail.

Ben, with all due respect, I have been on this issue for a long time. I have years of data of the same 30 people getting into my backend via online checks. I pulled checks and more than 50% of my pirating stopped.
As far as your quote, "It seriously amazes me how many webmasters are deathly afraid of a surfer getting a "free ride" and don't take check signups because of it." trust me when I tell you that there are gangs of these pirates that will all join in the same day (usually the day of an update) pillage your members area, and send it up to rapidshare. That's the truth and they know online checks is a way in.
If you tightened up your gateway, I would use checks again for sure.

What that has to do with online check fraud, I have no idea....

Anyway, make another thread when you can announce that you process checks in REAL TIME...Until then, I won't take them.

What about the so called Check21 / RCC systems rather than ACH?

Are the fraud rates any lower on this system lower than ACH?

Anyone has any data to prove this, or experiences to share about Check21 / RCC?
I am not a check expert, but have heard people say good things.
