Phase IV was one of the most atmospheric films I ever saw. Never met anyone else who had seen it.

Would add :
The Andromeda strain
Ghost in the Shell

and there are some brilliant 1950's black and white films made when "alien invasion" was a metaphor for the US percieved threat of commuinism...but the names escape me at the moment.

Escape from NY is good!
