What cell provider do you use in USA?

I've started with AT&T but I don't like them at all. They're too fucking expensive!

I am prepaid customer, so what are the alternatives. Oh and I want actual SIM card (so I can put it in my phone), not those crappy CDMA phones with 'built in' card...

What do you find the best offer around?

Thanks for help!

At&t since Jan 2004 when it was Cingular until the merger. No problems at all with them.

I am with AT&T because everyone I deal with uses them and the iPhone.
I would rather be with T-Mobile anytime.

AT&T.

I signed up back when they were Cingular. I had no issues then, and most people I talk to were on Cingular. However, once AT&T took them over, service has been on the decline.

Dropped calls. Bleed through. Junk phones. Shitty support. Plus I seem to have to watch all the nickel and dimes they add on my bill more so now.

Once contract expires, I think I'll be changing.

I've also had AT&T since they were Cingular, never had any problems with them. But then again, I pretty much never use the phone, so the chances of me running into a problem are greatly reduced.

AT&T prices were pretty much on par with the other companies, not sure about the prepaids.

i don't like the pricing for daily usage and fucking 20c for incoming sms message. What if somebody spam me? That's just nonsense.
T-Mobile, as far as I know charge "only" 5c for incoming sms, which is more fair.

So, it's basically ATT pretty much used over here?

for those who use AT&T, I assume you are post paid users. How much do you pay per month and what do you get for that money?

Will explain this again, since it seems not many have caught on.

Proceed to get a cell phone that has as few minutes as possible, but if you can find one that gives you unlimited minutes to 1 or a few people that is perfect.
You do not need text, so as few as possible or zero included.

Now get yourself a google voice account and route it to your cell. Only give out your google voice number. Go ahead and forget your cell number except for support or billing reasons. Just do not give it out.

As long as you can call into your google voice account, you can now call anyone anywhere. The rates are free for all domestic calls and other countries are often as cheap as .02 a minute.
You also now get unlimited SMS messages, and voicemail - which can also be transcribed into email. Conference calling, call routing for everyone or to even certain numbers. (so say your done with a chick, all her calls now go to voicemail forever).
Lots of other features as well like no name on caller ID = enter name or voice mail. Listen in to voice mails as they are recording and pick up if you wish. You can also start recording any phone call at any time. I know I am forgetting a whole lot of shit.

Oh I currently use T-mobile with a fav-5. I do pay for data though.
I got my niece an account with google voice and then her carrier is Kajeet. http://www.kajeet.com/4u/services-and-rates.html Who is having a special rate sign up for rest of September for 19.99

yes, but you forgot one thing. When Google calls me to connects me with the person I am calling, I still got charged because fucking shit charges on incoming calls too. That's the problem ;(

Calls are free from either direction, unless they are coming from overseas. Unless you mean by it using up some of your minutes.
Which then as I said if you make your google number one of your fave 5 numbers with tmobile it never touches any minutes.

I just know I have not used a single minute on my cell now for the past 3 months (I joined tmobile then). I also show no incoming or outgoing SMS messages either.
The unlimited data plan though kicks me in the ass but fuck it. As least I know I am screwing them on the main services they use to screw you. Being SMS (cheapest for them), call blocking, call fowarding, and other nickle and dime shit.

T-mobile prepaid is 10c min - $100 card is good for 1 year. It's a good way to have several phones for different projects.

Correct, but I am ATT Go Phone customer, aka prepaid. So I can't choose appropriate plan and that fucks me so bad!
I am thinking about switching to post paid, though. But still, it's minimum 40$ for one month which is not that cheap either, not to mention unlimited data plan which is 35$ alone (sucks!)

Oh and for Google Voice, you have to have internet access (which in case of unlimited data is not a prob), but what if you don't have data plan?

It's not that easy to talk cheap in the US it seems.

You do not need internet access for google voice, where you get that info?

You dial your own number on your cell, enter your pin, press 2 to place call, enter in number you wish to call.
Of course you should be calling in with a phone registered into your account, otherwise it will treat you like just another caller.

I have several phones with ATT. I find that the call quality depends a lot on the handset.

Not sure with ATT. I use tmobile myself.
The call would count as a local call no matter where you are though. It could use up some of your minutes.
With tmobile I get unlimited calls to 5 numbers. I have my voice number as my first one. It is the only number I call besides 611 for support.

If you have unlimited calls to 1 number your cool.
If you have unlimited local calls your cool.
If you have X many minutes per day and free nights and weekends, you could use up minites during the day.

I would have to say yes though you will be placing a local call to perform features. What you would be doing for the most part is just turning your phone into a dumb pipe. You may or may not still have to pay for minutes, but you will no longer be nickle and dimed to death for the additional shit like sms, call fowarding, call routing, call blocking, 411, roaming charges, transcribing to text/email, recording calls, voicemail, and such.

Gotcha. Too bad I am prepaid customer, so no unlimited calls for me whatsoever. Maybe I should look into some post paid plans...
