Ever had a "beer float?"

Those that have been paying attention may have noticed that on Sundays I take the day off to go on a bike ride. Frequently we end up at a brewery. I have noticed that a few of them offer a root beer float, but with real beer instead of root beer.

I don't know about you, but there isn't much that sounds appetizing about putting a scoop of vanilla ice cream in my beer. Have you tried it? Is it better than it sounds or should I stick with my beer, straight up?

Haven't seen anything like that around here but I do miss all the old A&W's that we used to have.

When I was a kid, my grandfather used to make them, but I never got to taste them. My grandmother would boil the beer and cook it down a bit, then add brandy and ice cream.

Brandy and ice cream sounds enticing . . . a lot more than beer and ice cream.

Doesn't sound that good. I'd stick to the beer straight.

All depends on the beer really. Something thick with a good taste may be good, but not a Bud Light or anything like that...

I was thinking the same thing, maybe Guinness and vanilla?

Well, I know the default beer at the place I was at today was a Stone smoked porter. It was thick with a delicious taste, which is pretty much why I wouldn't want to put vanilla ice cream in it.

Now, the Alaskan smoked porter, maybe vanilla ice cream would have helped it. I would never do that to a Guinness either.

They still are around. Often they have merged into a KFC building.

Oh and to make sense of the quote. I have not had one. Could make sense with the correct dark beer though. I wouldnt want to mess up many beer flavors. Then again rootbeers also have deep flavors like beers do so it makes sense.
