Exactly. The handful of programs I know who tell me straight, are all down at least 30%, some as much as 50%.

I find it hard to believe anyone with a pay site is "rocking" right now. Though, if you just started and have nothing to compare it to, you may think your sales are up.

I agree I'm sure some programs are growing, the ones that are sending massive amounts of traffic to them, sure. If sales are down 50% and you send 3 times the traffic to them you are going to grow, that's simple math. We are in the midst of one of the largest changes that the online adult industry has ever seen, imho. This could be called "trimming of the fat" X10. It's a mix of the global recession, web 2.0, changing media markets, technology and oversaturation.

2010 will be ...interesting.

But running an index and directory, I will say that of the 364 affiliate programs I was a part of in Jan 2009, 49 of those have went bye, bye., as of today. I have never seen so much turnover... ever.

When you say worst, what do you mean? Is traffic down or is ratios down? Each sting just as much, but I'm curious because my ratios are better in December. Much better.

I was about ready to hang myself in October and November. I am looking at Stats Remote right now and across the board in November was 1:1,559 for me.

So far in December its 1:827 but still nowhere near as good as the 1:500'ish I was getting over the summer.

Yes, having the same amount of traffic isn't "growing".

What you're trying to say then is ratios are down. I'm sure for some sites they're down. On the other hand, I'd bet some new sites and sites who are innovating have better ratios than older sites who are hoping that doing the same thing again and again will keep making them money.

It all goes back to innovating and breaking new ground like you are trying to do with your dating project. This industry moves FAST. This industry has only existed for 13-14 years and look how much change it has seen. If you sit still for a few minutes people are going to blow right by you. You can't build something and hope it will make the same or more money forever without you keeping it moving forward.

In my opinion. program owners will generally say "we are having a great month" or not say anything. Few will admit they are not selling for fear of an affiliate exodus.

Affiliates will generally give a more accurate picture of how they are doing.

I made 3k more this year than last with beautifulfeetonline.com. I am making digitaldivasonline.com an alpha directory. I am up 4k from last year with that. But I am also redesigning it, starting to market it, etc. I am sure that has a ton to do with it.

But for other webmasters, the economy is really that bad right now. more people than you know, won't even have a christmas next week. sad. My advice would be to just keep building, biding your time.

These times will pass eventually, I just think it will be awhile. 4 years at least. And I do not think that shit, at least in the U.S., has really hit bottom yet. Is anyone watching gold? Or the U.S. currency index? There is some scary shit out there. And scary shit coming down the pipe imho.

Objective opinion, my experience in a small test of his traffic was that it is better used to feed a site than sell shit unless the product is brand new or hot. Even then you are lucky to come out ahead.

Exactly, slamming a paysite that is not new and/or very different with ANY TRAFFIC is throwing good money after bad money. Find new products to sell and use your content to promote things other than a porn paysite. Content is king, not traffic. I believe your point is that the adult industry as a whole is contracting. Yes, that is true. The adult industry is in a secular decline. It has been for a while, even before tubes. Every year, less and less people pay for porn. Now with the proliferation of tube sites, the free porn effect on surfers has become even more exacerbated. Hence, conversion ratios are worsening.
