Solution: How the U.S. can pay for Health Care

Fast Food Tax

Tax the manufacturers, the distributors, the retail producers and the consumers. The whole lot of them. They already tax cigarettes, alcohol and other products that are health risks.

Promote locally grown and organic.

good idea but they'd whine that it was a tax on the poor because the poor eat more fast food than affluent people. plus the fast food industry is pretty powerful and i'm sure would fight it tooth and nail. i think it's a good idea, people who eat the most fast food eventually cost the healthcare system a ton of money, let them pay for it in advance through a fast food tax.

i know in NY state there's a soda/pop tax coming in

They talk about this all the time and it never happens. It might, but I'm not holding my breath.

I did just come from the grocery store where they are now charging you a deposit on some plastic containers. We've always paid a deposit on carbonated soda bottles, but now they've decided they need to branch out.

Soda pop causes diabetes. Diabetes is very expensive to treat. It is mostly a preventable disease. Sure tax the shit out of stuff that causes it. Its a win win situation.

Right now we can't pay for it, regardless of what the moronic liberals say. Once obama stops getting involved in economics, we might slowly contribute it. However, i love the idea of a fast food tax.

Quoted for truth. That's the kind of shit that leads to Diabetes II and all sorts of problems down the road.

i hate to tell you all this and this is what conservatives fail to see is we have had free health care for years its in the form of midcade/medicare. which means if your Gross income is below a certain level depending on the total children you have you can recieve free care and I know in Ky if you go over the "free" level and make a slight amount over to a top off point you get whats called k-tap and you have a 20 dollar premium per person.. all this is doing is highering the " maximum level" from say 1550 for 2 to like 2400( by the way the math says if you make more then 8.5 an hour you dont qualify for ANY health care) per person to qualify......... it was OK to have this in the regan/bush/clinton/bush terms but the second obama wants to make it accessible for millions of more people NOW he's a socialist burns my ass

DO I AGREE we need health care YES do I believe its being handled right NO there are points in the republicans plan I agree with and there are points in the democrats I agree with and vice versa I disagree with.. and after watching the health care debate i think they are further together then apart i only thought there was like 2-3 things they agree on they were like 6- things agreeable......... theres my 10 cents my 2 cents is free

Actually, we conservatives are well aware thank you. I love how people try to split hairs and attempt to sound intelligent, equating medicare/medicaid to what I assume you're referring to as Universal Health Care. It's not the same. Please stop using terrible excuses to rationalize what Obama is doing. Furthermore, it's clear that you haven't thought about any consequence in having Obamacare, most importantly, economics.

Americans do NOT want Obamacare. If the Dems stopped embarrassing themselves and went back to vote on smaller, individual bills which they and the Republicans agree with, things would work better. But they're just trying to ram it in regardless of anything else going on. It's an example of being delusional.

I'll be incredibly shocked if they don't pass the bill today. Pelosi isn't going to let anybody leave until they have enough votes, that much is obvious. Nobody should be worried about it at this point.

Read "What would happen in 2014?"

Item 2

Individuals would be required to buy coverage in 2014 or face a fine.

These fines are set to increase each year until 2016 when they get 2.5% of your income or $695, whichever is GREATER. So, if you make $1,000,000.00 annually, but don't want health insurance and don't buy it, you might be paying $25,000.00 in fines.

Again, if you DON'T BUY health coverage, you will be FINED!

You make a good point. The poor do eat a lot of fast food, but the funny thing about that is that it is not cheaper than buying regular food. I think it really points to a greater problem in this country which is a lack of understanding about money.

A poor person with a kid sees going to McDonalds and spending $10 as a cheap way to feed their kid and themselves. But if they do that 4-5 days a week every week it quickly becomes a couple hundred dollars a month. For that amount of money they could buy decent meat, veggies and actually healthy food. Of course it would also call on them to cook them and make meals. But I think there are a lot of people who see $200 a month for groceries and say, "I can't afford that." But they see $10 a day and think they can.

Simple solution, stop the tax payers for paying for their food.

Junk food is so cheap because of heavy government subsidies

I want to see them try and enforce this shit. Will they start a new government agency "Health Insurance Enforcement"? Who is going to pay those salaries?

I believe this is just another way for the vampire government to suck the public financially dry so "they" can move in and implement their new ideas about government and money under the NWO.

Job market is stagnant, this country is already bleeding out, the public is bailing out financial institutions and now they want the public to start paying for mandatory health care. I wonder when those rumors about the Amero are going to start to surface again. What about the RealID? Barcode tattoos? FEMA Camps?

They are hiring 16,000+ new armed IRS agents to enforce the bill. RealID is already being talked about again in the form of a national health card.

Get it straight Al. All health care is mandatory. Its just how you choose to pay for it. Its like any insurance. You have to lose to win.

This is why anything put in place by our elected official nowadays will fail, the genius behind helping those that are truly in need of aid will abuse the original purpose of said help. Happens Everywhere!!! The reason is not the stupid, broke, fat bitch buying energy drinks and fuckin twinkies on her government implemented debit card, it's the hope that these same officials expect the people they are trying to help will have the pride to not abuse the situation and learn to help themselves, history has taught this is not the case. The only way any hand out will work is if the one in need has pride in themselves and hope to make a better future. Very rare to find that in a person anymore.

"here, have some of the best healh care in the world for free....but please do right with it"

This shit is not going to work, and I have a front row seat on this trainwreck....

Right, it is cheap. But on a realistic level it is not cheaper than eating healthy. My brother has 3 kids. If he takes he, his wife and their 3 kids to McDonalds or Taco Bell it ends up costing them around $40-$45 by the time they are done. He makes pretty good money and they only do this a few times a month, but there are people that do this every day and think they are saving money on food. It adds up quickly and if you bought it every day you could spend the same or less at the grocery store and buy good food that is healthy for you.

There is $10 billion dollars in the bill for new IRS agents to enforce the bill. I would expect someone for the bill to know a little about how it is going to be implemented.

How, and who, do you think they are going to fine.... erm "tax".... those who don't have "acceptable" health insurance?

You can use food stamps to buy a lot of stuff now. Places like Papa Johns and Papa Murphy's that are take and bake pizza you can get with food stamps. That isn't right. You shouldn't be able to buy ice cream and pop and chips and junk food or convenience food with your food stamps. It is more expensive for starters and not nearly as healthy for you.

How, and who, do you think they are going to fine.... erm "tax".... those who don't have "acceptable" health insurance?
Why would they need armed agents? They are going to fine you. This will be just like owing taxes. If you don't pay, they then go after your bank accounts and your property and garnish your wages. They don't come to your house and take you out by gunpoint.

I highly doubt anything like a Fast Food Tax would ever happen under this current government system. They simply don't want a healthy public. A healthy public is a strong public. A strong & intelligent public is not easy to control and defeat.

Here we are, watching it all happen like a reality show.

Where does it say armed agents? Please quote this from a reliable source.

Actually no, I'm not. Please show me one source that says they are hiring 16,000 armed IRS agents and that these agents will be coming to people's homes who don't buy health insurance and taking them away at gunpoint.

Its a typical redneck right wing radical tactic. Say anything you like. Lie through your teeth. Some moron will believe you. And unfortunately, there are a lot of morons who unfortunately can vote.
