Some of the cemetaries around here have had problems with people defacing or stealing plaques... the reason, to recover the copper and bronze used on them.

Pretty fucked up to desecrate the resting place of someone to make a few bucks.

Some of the older cemeteries in London are 3 layers deep. Looking at the last couple of photos it looks a bit like they are going for reusing space and laying the old stones flat in the grass instead of having them standing.
