album tip: Yukmouth ~ Free at last
review from me: since his best solo album thug lord - the new testament (2001) he released several albums, follow up godzilla was ok but not as grimey and, well, almost perfect! as thug lord. Then he released a couple mediocre to forgettable albums because of some label problems, contract, etc. This is his first independent release since he left rapalot and finally the hungry yuk is back... doesnt go as deep as his 2001 album like the last track on there 'new testament outro' (the title track, which is fucking perfect, comes as close as it gets) and there are alot of known topics, but this guy flows so damn nice and he has a little bit of his grimey voice back in some tracks like in 2001. At first i heard some 'south' style beats, and some unoriginal topics, but it sounds just so damn good on this cd... damn. Its everything, some tracks i skip like the kinda mtv ish single type song 'the hard way' (with a horrible auto tune broad singing) and 'hubba rocks' with a too busy hook it sounds a bit sloppy. But everything else goes from good to fucking great. This is one of those cd's you turn up as loud as possible, the louder you got the speakers the better it sounds. Downside is he has a bit too many features but somehow that doesnt bother me that much. Best tracks: Free at last, 100 brick boy, west is back (yes, with that g funk moog synth sound of the 90's!), smokin treez (the flow of yuks verse is flawless), hell i can name several more. Just check it.
