Surf Punks perform My Beach.
The lead which can't be understated enough, occurs toward the end of the song. In terms of minimalist genius there is no comparison.

I assume you're talking rock here.
The Big Picture - KING's X
Walk - Pantera
Diry Movies - Van Halen
Electric Eye - Judas Preist
Little Fighter - White Lion
Sunshine of your love - Living Color (Find it and listen, very cool)
Aqualung - Jethro Tull
Hocus Pocus - Focus
Reelin' in the years - Steely Dan (Donr with a pignose amp)
The Reaper - Blue Otster Cult
Warriors - Thin Lizzy
Talk to ya latter - The Tubes

These are solos that I think are great and that I don't think got the recognition they deserve, BTW they don't have to be blazin fast to be great.

Let me take it the opposite way of speed...

I'll go with Mick Taylor's slide lead on The Rolling Stones "Love In Vain" live version. And also his solo on "All Down The Line" from Exile On Main Street.

I stole every lick on those leads. Just great playing.

Steve Vai doesn't count - he's not from this planet. Disregarding his impeccable technique, Mr. Vai's playing is equal parts bravado and humility, weakness and power, ego, frailty, emotion and humour. He is also the only guitarist I've ever seen cry while playing a solo - this in the old Rock and Roll Heaven days, before "Eat 'em & Smile".

The first time I heard Vai was on Tinsel Town Rebellion, the first Vai album I bought was Flex-able - after hearing The Attitude Song (from a 45 included with Guitar Player magazine).

Having said all that - and returning to the topic - I'll throw in Frank Zappa's solo from Cosmic Debris ( Apostrophe album) as one of the most underrated solos of all time. That was the one that made me pick up the guitar and make a living at for over twenty years.

underrated? almost anything David Gilmour or Andy Summers did.

A personal fav is David Gilmour's work on Syd Barret's "Late Night"

I'll also add Billy Corgan in Soma

(starts at 4:24, pay attention to the work of the guitar with the voice and drums towards the end of the solo)

and last but not least, the awesome "Three Days"!

and be thankful I didn't add any QOTSA!!!

He's definitely underrated!

I bought "Slip of the Tongue" by Whitesnake recently, Vai plays all guitar (both rhythm and lead) on the album. I'm really enjoying it.

Steve Vai is amazing and is considered by many to be one of the best players in the world. Don't think he is underrated just not creating mainstream music. I still love watching him the crossroads movie as the devil's guitar player.

I'm going to say Angel City.

The guitar solo at the end of "Take me away to Marseilles" is absolutely breathtaking.

On the whole, I thought that Jimmy Page was pretty crap as a lead guitar player, he was much better at chording, and had some real talent on acoustic.

But since this is about UNDERRATED guitar solos, then I have to nominate the solo from "Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zep. Not that long, but REALLY outstanding.

I'll also add Billy Corgan in Soma

(starts at 4:24, pay attention to the work of the guitar with the voice and drums towards the end of the solo)

and be thankful I didn't add any QOTSA!!!
The only word that describes the Soma solo is "scorching".

A few lesser-known (I think?) solos that I like quite a bit:

"The Great Curve" by Talking Heads (w/ Adrian Belew on lead) from Remain in Light.

Gary Lucas' version of "Ride of the Valkyries"

Any of the solos Danny Gatton plays on the album Relentless (which has the arguably even more amazing Joey Defrancesco on organ)
